Title: Only 1 jet working on pole ??
Post by: Matt. on January 21, 2015, 05:04:50 pm
Hello guys, had 1 of them days today.......... Was working with my ionics beast or weapon of mass destruction today, when 1 of the jets started spluttering, with in 5 mins stop working, I lowered the pole and put my finger over the good one which was blasting out to see if it would clear the other one but the other just spluttered, this is my only 40+ ft pole so really need to fix tonight if I can.

Do I just replace the jets or is there more to it,

Help is appreciated as always

Matt

Had this loads of times, its always always the same thing.

ITS THE Y-PIECE.

They usually get bits of leaf or a small stone in them and get stuck in there.
Change it out and you'll be fine.

(If you don't have a spare one, you can buy them in B&Q and Homebase, in the rope and chain section.)

How do bits of leaf get into the Y-piece?  I have come to the conclusion that it is when you disconnect the pole, the connector falls to the ground bits of crap stick to is.  When you reconnect, the crap gets blasted up the pole until it reaches a narrow point- the Y-Piece.  In my experience, the jets themselves never get blocked as the holes are quite big.

Took me quite a while to puzzle that out, but now I always keep a spare Y handy.

Its always the Y-Piece.

Always.

That is all.

There will be something blocking the pipe or jet. A jet cant just fail. There is no moving parts.

Safety pins are handy for jet unblocking. Always got some in my 1st aid kit.:-)

I usually just disconnect Y piece and push a length of wire down jet (carry in van as precaution). This simply pushes out grit or whatever is caught in the jet hose. Have to do this around once a year. Not been lucky enough for it to be caught in Y piece, always seems to be up against the jet.

It will be a bit of dirt in the jet. You'll not blow it through, trust me. Take the pipe off the Y piece & suck on it as hard as you can- just don't swallow the dirt when it comes out!!

It might be blocked with ice in addition to any crud. How cold was it there today?

Nozzles are often the first thing to freeze in cold weather if youre actually able to start.

Try a sewing needle in the actual jet hole.

No probs. You've probably wedged the dirt in a bit more with all the previous fiddling- if it happens again pull the jet pipe off immediately & suck it as hard as you can, don't try & blow it. ;)
