Title: Transit Custom users 🚙
Post by: dannymack on January 03, 2015, 04:03:21 pm
Hi guys happy new year too all

Do yous get a noise like the exhaust has blown, sounds like a lorry sometimes ?
I did phone Fords as it comes and goes its like there's an hole in the manifold but they tell me it's the filter cleaning, bloody annoying, also I find the passenger side mirror not to good when your parking into a kerb as you just can't see the kerb in it.

It's a pretty good van but think I should have gone for a new VW Transporter but then again they probably got little faults

Regeneration of DPF.

Normal :)

Get a reverse camera fitted. I am just about to install a 4 camera system based on a Nissan. I get bored so like todo stuff.

Flippin hate dpf filters.

Got one on my Leon fr TDI and it's getting blocked at the minute. Have to boot it to clear it.

In time dpf filters will cause problems especially for a window cleaner. All the stop start driving is a killer on them, and they get blocked eventually.

You can get them taken out, or just manually regenerated but it's still a pain.

Yeah I guessed DPF would be a pain for our job. Luckily I drive 30
Miles to work. 15miles one way.

Most of my work is compact and some days I work in two streets and go home. Once I hit £400 i usually stop anyway.

+1.
My mrs pootles around town most of the time.
DPF only gets cleared if I go anywhere.
I am considering getting the DPF removed but still unsure.
Someone told me it'd fail an MOT without it but I've not researched properly yet.

I'm The same. I need to research it.

Some forums I've look at say that if your car had a dpf as factory standard then it will fail mot if it's not there.

I've seen plenty of places offering dpf removal though so there must be a way around it.

It's only a visual inspection on the mot... They are not allowed to start taking bits off the car to view it. I had a dpf on my skoda octavia vrs mk2.... Notorious vag are for dpf problems. Anyway... It's removed now. You would not tell by a visual inspection at all... Better fuel economy now... Runs like a dream. Much smoother... It already went like poop off a shiny shovel but it's even more responsive running well over 200 bhp 😄

And have you had an MOT since it was removed Mark? Did it pass?

How much did it cost to get it taken off?
What mpg gain have you seen?
Any dashboard errors?
Was it lumpy before if it's much smoother now?
Any other modifications?

Just googled.
It's illegal to remove DPF since February 2014.
And an MOT fail. They now need to look for it.

Yes.... They do need to look for it... Depending on vehicle depends if it can be spotted. If it's a straight thru pipe obviously it's not there. A small section is cut out.... Remove insides & re weld so it's not visibly been changed or altered. A software deletion is done on computer. No lights on dashboard as softwares deleted. Approx cost is about £350. Yes it's illegal but lots of people still offer this service

Ta.
What about power gains? VRS is 180BHP, standard, right?
20+BHP seems a lot for a simple procedure like that...?
Smoothness before/after?

It was 170 bhp standard... I had a re map which took it to 210bhp & with dpf removal it's added a gnats cock more... Not much tho

All good.

I remapped my last car.
I'm not gonna do it again on this one.
It's not the sort of car that gets thrashed in the same way and I'm a bit older now too.
Always good to research my options though.

Thanks for all the comments really interesting. Yes that's the noisy thing pain in the ass. I'm sure they've got to be on there for a good reason or they wouldn't fit them so think I'll leave it on and stomach the noisy thing occasionally.

there a pain on the 1.6hdi pugs as it causes carbon bildup in the enging then the oil pick up feed pipe blocks an kills the turbo then the turbo runs dry an metel shavens come off an get in the oil not good on that engine but as far as i no thats the only one that causes real problims most engines u can just rag them to clear the dpf filter ,so i hear the french dont have issues with dpf as they all drive like they have stole there cars lol

I'm not aware that a dpf regeneration causes any more noise over & above normal? Ours certainly doesn't.

It's a flawed technology to begin with & I think more & more manufacturers will go over to adblue.
