I know the topic of using drills to wind up the hose has been done dozens of times but I have to ask which make or type is best. I have tried a 12v, 14, and a couple of 18v the last on being a ryobe 18v but none last. They either burn out or draw too much from the battery. Thanks in advance and happy New Year to everyone.

No one got an answer?

I don't use a drill to wind in but in my previous life I was a chippie.
I used 18v DeWalt (everyone on site did really)
And a 14.4 Atlas Copco.
Although the DeWalt was top of the range, it burnt out pretty quick considering the price. The Atlas Copco (AEG) still going strong now. Loads more torque too.
All I would say is that if you're using a £99 B&Q drill (regardless of the make), that won't cut the mustard for very long.
Go to a proper hardware shop (not screw fix 'cause they're still b&q) and talk it over with them.
I'd definitely recommend the AEG/Atlas Copco, exercise caution with DeWalt and wouldn't touch with a very long stick something like a Makita, Hitachi, Bosch or Black&Decker.
Winding in a reel is putting much more strain on a drill than drilling a hole or screwing a screw in.

I use a 18v Erbauer drill (from screwfix) i do not use the rechargeable batteries it came with i have it wired directly to a 12v car battery.
I have used the same drill for 4.5 years to wind in 2 reels every day and the drill was secondhand when i bought it.
it works brilliantly and has never let me down

You've done well out of that Lee.
Erbauer are Screwfix own brand.

Thanks guys, Lee you definitely have had a great run with that drill. I have also wired up the drills to the 12v battery buy no joy so far.
