Title: Help to set up adwords
Post by: heritagecleaning on December 27, 2014, 04:25:04 pm
I've got an offer from Adwords where I get £100 credit if I spend £25. Thought I'd give it a go in the new year

Is there anyone on here who could set up a basic campaign for me? Either just because they're a good bloke or if not does anyone do it for money? Beyond understanding the concept I'm not that familiar with Adwords or how to set it up.

I know Google will do it for you, but I have read it's not the best thing to do as they are interested in extracting maximum cash rather that helping you out the best they can.

Cheers

Owen

I've done it all myself and found it wasn't too difficult with a book from the library, two brews and some hobnobs.  Just limit the daily spend so you can't do too much damage at the start.

I have also heard of people who get google's helpdesk to tweak things and they think it works well.  Having paid a local 'expert' on a 3 month trial to run it for me I would try the free help first.  My local 'expert' was dog toffee and cost me far more than monthly fee.  Difficult to quantify what a waste of money they were as although you can count the number of clicks and the amount spent to get them, you can't put a value on the lost work.

Can the £100 be used on an  Adwords Express campaign ?

This is a really easy introduction into adwords and is very easy to set up, you don't get the options available with normal adwords but it will give you a introduction while you research how to run a full campaign

I think the biggest mistakes is not setting geographical limits, make your ad only show with 15-20 miles of your address, I see adwords which are from companies 200 miles away.

Also make the landing page relevant to the adwords headline

'Birmingham suite cleaners' should go to the suite cleaning page on your website not your home page.

One of the books was Adwords For Dummies - the bright yellow ones with the cartoony illustrations.

don't be too worried about setting daily budget too high as this combined with a lowish bid per click (I ignore there suggested bid amount)  should give you a high ranking  :)

its a lot of try it and see what happens

for windows I tend to bid about 35p to 70p per click with a £10 daily budget but every area will be different

How do you know they were paying £11 per click?  There are different ways funding Adwords.

I've said this before, and got shot down on here: It's not easy running an efficient Google Adwords campaign.  If you're not a techie, with a lot of spare time I suggest you employ someone who is to run your campaign.

FYI, I do run my own campaign, but I've refused to run a friends, who is running a similar business in another area!

Its easy. You tube a few videos give yourself a couple of hours and you will be away. Main things to set are geographical limits and max daily spend.

A cheeky little tip is to use  your local competitors business names as keywords. The amount you pay for a click will be next to nowt coz hopefully youll be the only one bidding for that keyword

But they will have low search volume so won't show :-\

I've tried misspelling word, unique words, people names etc... google says they won't show because there is no one searching for those words or the search volume is low.

I wonder why carpet cleaners used to take the advice of yellow pages , newspapers and leaflet deliverers , yet spending an hour on the phone to Google will mean them getting ripped off ?

I recently spent an hour on the phone to google and can honestly say was probably the best hour of advice I've had all of last year !

Why does this happen in carpet cleaning and not in other areas?

I need a new thermostat for my shower - if I Google that I won't get a queue of plumbers falling over themselves to do it for £15.

becouse most of trades need more education to be a pro,
in our industry all education is about few hundrets pounds
any cheapo "can do" carpet cleaning
call all of those 15 pound guys and see how the service will end, it will be very poor service or bite and switch

They do not last long but if you are into cleaning average houses they can do damage .

I often wonder what is the Price a Customer thinks they are willing to pay to have their Carpet Cleaned

I did have a period when I asked them how Much was the Job Worth to  them when they phoned for a quote they went to pieces  at this question

I could have tried I will come and clean your carpet and you pay me how much you think it is worth for the job at the end

Sorry I know its not Adwords

Mike it is a bitch in Southampton. The worst thing about the companies shown in your picture is none of them are actually from Southampton. I went and quoted a job recently at £200. One of the above companies quoted the same job over the phone at £89. Luckily the woman went with mine because I was local and the other company refused to come out and quote. That £89 job for them involved a 65 mile round trip from Dorset. One of the others in the pic is a member of the carpet cleaners network(the prices might explain why they guarantee so much work). ;)
