Probably around £150 and 2 bottles of wine. Quite a bit down on recent years. I must admit we have struggled to get round to our domestic customers this year, often been a couple of weeks late. This probably explains the reason why the tips are down. Back to being reliable again now that the second van is on the road.  ;D

Ps I'd have thought you'd have got loads more than that Daz. 350 odd customers that's only averaging a bit over £1 per house, and most of your customers are rich (or at least live in expensive houses)

Tips I would say around £15

Wine about 3 bottles

3 boxes of Chocs

Worst year ever for tips.

A price increase and a round shake up see me hit my YTD figure from the previous year in October of this year.

For me it's Go cardless and Online that have changed.

Not moaning in the slightest. Yeah it's nice getting a tips but like people say. Work smarter. Not harder.

Yes 50% of my customers pay online now. Far easier for customers to not tip when paying electronically.

Overwhelmed myself. I've built a wine rack in the back of the van and installed a safe in the cab.
Record year and still more to come.

Several £20 tips so maybe the recession is finally over?

Box of quality street
Tub of roses
Box of shortbread
Bottle of white wine
2 bottles of red
And a single can of Budweiser  :)
And £232 cash.

Best tip was £30 tip from a £10 customer.

A few customers who always tipped me at Xmas haven't this year-I suspect because of GoCardLess as DeeGee has said.
And like H2O says, I don't expect anything at all.
A couple of quid for a pint at the end of the week is always nice.

And commercials expect the tip rather than give 'em.

I got my best tip yesterday from a customer who pays by cheque in post (this was one I did 8 days early and left a note explaining about getting everyone cleaned for Christmas hence Im a little early this month)

It was a Christmas card and in it she wrote

"To Ian, thank you for your kind explanation about the window cleaning for December (I was away anyway) You are by far the best window cleaner in the area and always so reliable"

Now cant spend it, cant drink it, cant eat it but so nice to get comments like that  :)

Worst year for tips for a decade.
I wouldn't want to go out collecting again though to get a few extra quid in tips
I prefer the way they pay online and I keep out of their way, I've got some seriously weird people on my round
Also my new Van seems to be  making people feel that I have too much money to receive a tip
My son drives an old 206 around and he has already got 3 times as much as me,  his round is half the size of mine,  but he goes collecting ( begging ;D)

I did £118 in cash, 3 bottles of wine and a bottle of Preseco .... best year ever ... and I was worried at start of month as most were going to be 6 to 9 days early  :)

Do I use the retail value of the wine for the tax mans share ?

I wasnt angling for anything mate, just recounting something that occured to me two days ago. I knew though that someone would say what you did and that someone would also say something trying to be funny about paying for sex. Bit sad really.

But it doesnt matter I did it because the person concerned is homeless, it was freezing cold, they were sat on the pavement with people just strolling by going home to their families, Ive been there myself. Maybe I helped them just a little. Maybe I didnt. Who knows. I like to think even if they still shot up with a needle later that day their faith in humanity was at least heartened for a few brief seconds.

I reckon the ones who have done well out of tips are those who are viewed by the customers as tradesmen, working class, council estate employee type characters.

Those who appear to be more professional, business minded individuals who are in it to make a profit rather than a wage are less likely to receive anything approaching what the other characters have managed to accrue.

 8)  ;D  ;)

Ive never got much since converting to WFP. Used to get a nice healthy wad when I was trad. The moment I converted, thats it the tips dried up. Now the van is brand new, sign-written and we've adopted payment methods such as GoCardless, card reader, BACS we've changed in the eye of the customer IMO. We have terms and conditions, PL insurance, we insist on working when we stipulate and we bin them if they dont tow the line. Now we're a business, a legit business. Not a beer money boy, a scally or a cheeky chappie. Its those guys who get the tips more than the businesses. Businesses dont get tips anyway, when did any of us last tip our accountant, Alex Gardiner or the guy at the petrol station?

Now Darren, the guy who works for me a few days a week, hes a different character. As rough around the edges as they come. Working class lad through and through, broad cockney accent and attitude to go with it. His heart's in the right place, can work hard but he struggles with social skills  ;)

Last week on one of his days working for himself he picked up £150 in tips. Got me thinking.
