Title: For getting over 6 foot gates and fences
Post by: JackieW on December 22, 2014, 02:57:08 pm
Does anyone use two x 2 metre A Frame ladders rather than the folding telescopics?

I tried the one at screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/p/aluminium-telescopic-ladder-section-2-x-7-treads-4-43m/64728 and it seems a heavy old thing to set up and straddle the 6 foot gates.

A frames seem a lot lighter and probably quicker, one either side.

Anyone use them?

I just jump over, can't be wasting time with ladders etc, then again I've been called spider man many a time by fellow windies.

But what is jumping over doing to your joints, there's nothing that cant be replaced in any job
only yourself.

It's no different than doing pull ups etc at the gym, I never jump, rather i lower myself down as you would on the second movement of a dip/pull up

I carry two A frames for commercial anyway. They are great for getting over gates.

One is smaller than the other tho. So I am carful when going over.

I bought a second hand set of extending ladders from the local paper and cut them down to size. Just split them when needed - cheap as chips.

I find that the best tool in such a situation is a piece of paper.
On it will be prionted a message indicating that in order to clean their windows, I need better access.
I wrote on one today.  Not a gate issue but the side alley was totally blocked off.  I haven't dumped - though they won't get a clean from me this time around.  I've merely given them the opportunity to continue with the service by ensureing better access in the future.  If it's the same next time, that will be the finish of that job.  I'm not being unreasonable either.  It would have taken ages to get through if I had tried.

I generally jump over, not always practical on weaker gates so i use my A frame then.  :)

I'm not too old to do it. And used to. But if I get paid the same whether the back is cleaned or not. If they forget to leave the gate open. Their loss.

Too old at 39? I'm 52 and do it easily enough. I'm not Superman either!

I am 49 and stopped smoking 4 years ago, so a fat B now (17 stone) I will shin over, if I have a good footing. Cant do with messing about. I have 1 customer who has a 8 foot wall and wont attempt it.
