best thing i ever done, ive received a number of jobs, conny roofs, gutter clearance, new regular customers etc etc

i think you do need to make it look professional though, and it needs to stand out, you see a lot of vans around that look really pikey

you dont need to pay the earth either, if you've got a bit of an imagination & dont mind putting it on yourself which is really easy, you can design your own, i did, i used   http://www.thesignbuilder.co.uk/  i have a swb transit & for both sides + back n front for £129 inclusive

it helps to have a nice clean van as well.

also if you haven't got already, consider getting some uniform printed, that gives a good impression to, again you dont have to pay the earth, i used to spend a lot on getting  tee-shirts & sweatshirts printed. but now i just where a printed hi-viz vest over whatever i am wearing costs less than a fiver inc print off ebay

definitely go for it

Lots of walk ups when doing soffit fascia gutter work, or ' I've just seen your van...' type calls to the office - never underestimate the power of advertising your van!!

Can't think of any reason not to. Customers trust you more if they can see your number displayed etc. I suppose if you like waving your fist at other drivers or flicking the bird then maybe don't do it.

One possible down side. Insurance company's ask you if its written up. Don't know what difference it makes

I heard insurance hoes down as the van is less likely to be stolen, seen as it's got your details all over it, it puts car thiefs off...?

If i was to have sign writing it would look like yours david@kent clean.
Looks miles more proffesional with a nice simple font like that without the look at me graphics stateing every single thing that can be cleaned making you look desperate for work.
Imo sometimes little is more.

Looks like I'm the only one but I'm not sign written anymore.

Brought me minimal work, a lot of customers looking to save £1.
Nothing that was worth anything really.

I actually (when I got my last new van) didn't get sign written because I subbed a fair bit from a mate then. But the subbing got binned, 'cause he went mental.

New van time and I didn't want to get it done.
Subsequent motors-still not signed, and won't be.
I'm happier now I'm not sign written.

Got me loads of work, but I'm full up now so wouldn't get it done again if I was changing the van.

Got this done a couple of years ago, it works very well - lots of people say they recognise the van when they receive our leaflets or cards as the branding is all the same.

Definitely go for it.

our cost around 3k to wrap and I would want that back in new work with in 18 months on carpet cleaning  and as done so since 2006 when we started warping them

the quickest paid for itself with in 1 year the longest 18 months

with window cleaning we spend 400 pounds and it paid for it self in 8 months

hope this helps

After today, I'm starting to wonder.  I'm currently using a hire van while mine is undergoing repair.  I was just finishing a job when the hire company phoned me.  My customer's neighbour had phoned them because she didn't like where I was parked; it seems that the neighbour and the customer have issues with each other and the neighbour wanted to get me in the crossfire.
I was parked on shared roadway (not public highway) in a position that would not obstruct anyone.  Apparently, the deeds say that bit should be left clear for turning - though there is no signage to indicate this.  Normally I park on the customer's drive but it was full today.
Honestly, for the sake of 20 minutes parking 8 times a year (a lot less if driveway space is available).  If that's all she's got to worry about she should be feeling lucky.
I'm still wondering how I managed to (just about) keep it reasonably polite.
The irony is that I ended up parked there about 5 minutes longer due to the hassle of taking the call etc.

And, with perfect timing, this appeared in my inbox when I returned home:

Get it signwritten.  It'll pay for itself ten times over.

Make sure it's clear, concise and easy to read your contact details.

For me it all depends on what work you do and what new work you are after.
If your domestic then it will pay for itself and bring in new work in know time if your commercial then I would say there no harm in it but it very rarely brings anything in.

My last van was signed, but having just bought a new one I'm in to minds as to bother as I know longer target residential.

Nice job tony,

Take no notice of Micky boy, he seems a bitt grumpy of late.

Having the van sign written shows you turn up month in month out, the neighbours see you, and before long get another, all nice and compact, your not zipping into a road "undercover" and leaving like a thief in the night  :D

£310

Andy  ;)

hi andy...is it already booked in?

the reason i ask, is that you could get exactly that for a lot cheaper, for your van it should cost about £130 inclusive thats back front & both sides, with as much or as little graphics as you like, also you can design your own image or download.

this is with  http://www.thesignbuilder.co.uk/  the vinyl they use is very good quality, a friend of mine does graphics and he was really impressed with the quality of it, and the price

i suppose the only downside is you`ll have to put it on yourself, although its really easy...trust me  ;D me and the wife done it in less than a day....and she`s not the brightest spark  ;D ;D

just thought id make mention  ;)
