As long as the cheque clears i will be ok but had a bit of a wobble with a big job we did.

What can you do to make sure companies are not in trouble? I have seen some people mention they do checks?

Any advice on costs/etc would be great.

I use www.duedil.co.uk. Only problem with these sites though is they are only accurate up until the end of the previous financial year. A lot can happen in the space of 12 months or so.

Not really just a problem with the sites. You are not going to get more up to date info without hacking their bank account.
