Title: Yell.com Again!!!
Post by: Bay View WCS on December 09, 2014, 08:29:18 am
Hey all

Just going through bank statement and noticed the payment to Yell.com (Hibu). Now I also got a new one-off job yesterday who told me she found me on yell.com. I only pay £20.00 a month for my area so it's not a massive amount but I'm really thinking of sacking it off as I've only got about 3 new jobs from it this year as most seem to use google now.

I know many on here here hate 'em but I would appreciate your feedback please.

Cheers, Tom

My opinion is obviously a bit biased since I build websites but in my experience Hibu are absolutely rubbish.

They're expensive - which would be fine if you got decent results, but few do.

They often use the same design of website for companies only a few miles from each other,.. I recently spoke to a plumber in the North East who told be about one of his competitions sites which was IDENTICAL to his except for the phone number!

I've yet to see a Hibu site properly optimised for Google - not even a mediocre attempt at it.

Very few Hibu sites are responsive and phone/tablet friendly.

Hibu is the only company I know of that charges you to release the domain name that you own when you move away from them!

Spend thousands a few years ago on hitting top on every search in my county and it brought in next to nothing. My opinion if the new jobs are not totalling the annual cost to have it then it's a waste of time...

use yell myself. £25 pm and one of the first custies i got from it was a £600 per year job. so one customer pays for the advertising and more, any other work through the year is a bonus
