Hi All,
At the moment I pay a daily rate to anyone who works for me...
I'm thinking of paying an hourly rate instead.
With your workers... Do you start paying them from when they meet you in the morning until you drop them back off at base in the evening, or from when you start your first house to when you finish the last house?

As you would with any job. They have to make it base in the morning and return from base of there own backs. Cant expect them to get to a job. If there is no base, pay them.
When I was engineering. I had to get to work off my own back. If I then travelled to my place of work. I got paid for it. So if I was stuck in traffic, I got paid

Guys get paid from time they leave the unit until return to base ( they have to an hourly rate to get bonus ) they get 15 mins at the end of day to wash, fill and park up

Are your guys employed PAYE?
What rate of pay do you pay them and how much bonus?
What core hours are they supposed to work?
I hope you don't mind all the questions?

When would you want to be paid from and until if you were the employee?
-
When i employed they got paid from the time they got to my house until they got back to my house , why should it be any other way ?
Its not their fault if the first job is an hour away , this is your job as an employer to price this kind of thing in !
I would not sit in a van and travel without getting paid

Personally, I don't like hourly rate.
Though I don't employ.
I pay day rate and half day rate as I think it's the fairest way.
Subbing you may squeeze an extra few quid here and there but the relationship works better on day/half day rate ime.

If I was the employee, I would want to be paid from the moment I set the alarm clock the night before - after all, I wouldn't have to set it if I wasn't working. At the other end of the "work" day, I should be paid until after I finish my evening meal because it's all the employer's fault that I had to exist on sandwiches during the day. Finishing evening meal until bedtime I wouldn't expect to be paid.

We used to pay an hourly rate. From when they arrived at my house to when they finished the last job.
Not really fair on the employees with bad weather etc. Now pay a monthly wage and a bonus based on turn over. Everyone is happier

Ha ha. That sounds like the guy who used to work for me. He actually asked if I could move my work business premises closer to where he lives because of the traffic getting there in the mornings and I'm not joking!

IVE PAID FOR THE ROUND DONE, daily rate, hourly rate they will not be in a rush to get finished, if they know what they are doing they can then stop and chat as much as they like, customers can hold you back with idle chat for upto 10 minutes a time, its ok when they are chatting to you because you are the boss.
some get employees to claim as self employed, give you no worries about paying, especially on rainy days when not out. or any accidents , gives you no blame

Ha ha. What I wrote was parody - as you realise. I know that some employees want too much done for them but I never would have dreamed up that one. :)
