Title: How much do you pay for PL Insurance?
Post by: mike1986 on December 06, 2014, 05:02:57 pm
Just had my renewal quote at £175.00 with hiscox insurance. It also covers me for pressure washing, gutter cleaning etc.

Am i paying too much? I am a sole trader.

Thanks

Hiscox cover we have covers the glass (in our case) that we are working on.

Cheaper insurances don't. In most cases residential isn't worth forking out for the extra, but when you are cleaning commercial glass panels 6 meters high, then the higher cover is a must.

This is correct.

Not much point in having insurance if it doesn't cover the (expensive) building you are working on. Pay the few quid more for a proper policy.

I pay about £70 which includes "property being worked on" Property being worked on means the actual item you are cleaning. If you don't have this cover then the "item" or window you are cleaning will not be covered. However, should your pole fall & break the next window (which you were not working on at the time) this will be covered. So, everything else around you, which you are not working on, be it another human being or someone elses property (item) will still be covered without the "property being worked on" extra cover.

However, in my case the "property being worked on" is burdened by a £400 excess so domestic window wise would probably never be used.

This is often confused by people thinking that "property being worked on" means the whole of the customers property- it doesn't.
