Title: Broke van is it still safe
Post by: Ben wood on December 02, 2014, 10:16:51 pm
I was just topping up my brake fluid but as I tool the lid off the lid fell apart. Is it safe to drive with no lid and where will stock them

i would say not safe to drive , if enough slops out as your driving air will get in to brake system .

get a new cap from dealer or scrappy

Christ no, once a lot of moisture gets into fluid it will cause havoc.

Scrapyard or main dealer.

You could try clingfilm and tape but seriously it needs fixing ;)

Other thing you really shouldn't be having to top brake fluid up, unless you are loosing it from somewhere, probley a clutch cylinder. Just have a look for wet patches of oil on gearbox area if you are loosing a bit of fluid

If been left overnight uncovered in these damp conditions I would get fluid changed or at least moisture content checked .Shouldn't cost much to change fluid

No put lid back on with gaffer tape to hold it on. I won't drive it and know wanted to check level which was fine. Will get one from the breakers today. Cheers

your so right ....... its not like its important for the brake fluid to stay in reservoir .

pretty sure we don't have a national guard in britain either.

Unless you are driving around on badly corrugated roads just put a plastic bag around the lid with a elastic band and replace it when evener. Health and safety has fried your brains. Mate.

Stretch a balloon (or condom) over it to keep moisture out until you get a proper seal on it.

here here and a good rubber band will stop it falling off , easy fix for a few days until you get one sorted
