I was just topping up my brake fluid but as I tool the lid off the lid fell apart. Is it safe to drive with no lid and where will stock them
-
i would say not safe to drive , if enough slops out as your driving air will get in to brake system .
get a new cap from dealer or scrappy
-
Christ no, once a lot of moisture gets into fluid it will cause havoc.
Scrapyard or main dealer.
You could try clingfilm and tape but seriously it needs fixing ;)
-
Ok cool cheers guys. Would halfords or mdc not
Sell them.
-
most likely a dealer only part .
-
What vehicle is it? Honestly just go to a breakers yard it will cost about £3 lol
-
Other thing you really shouldn't be having to top brake fluid up, unless you are loosing it from somewhere, probley a clutch cylinder. Just have a look for wet patches of oil on gearbox area if you are loosing a bit of fluid
-
Get one ASAP , as you drive their tape over where the lid was
-
If been left overnight uncovered in these damp conditions I would get fluid changed or at least moisture content checked .Shouldn't cost much to change fluid
-
No put lid back on with gaffer tape to hold it on. I won't drive it and know wanted to check level which was fine. Will get one from the breakers today. Cheers

O my god don`t go near the van its not safe.Call the fire brigade its could b e a national catastrophe call out the nation guard. Its only brake fluid it could slop out and take a little paint off.

your so right ....... its not like its important for the brake fluid to stay in reservoir .
pretty sure we don't have a national guard in britain either.

Unless you are driving around on badly corrugated roads just put a plastic bag around the lid with a elastic band and replace it when evener. Health and safety has fried your brains. Mate.
-
hardly ..... i don't even have a cone or cordon tape! slap twat
-
Stretch a balloon (or condom) over it to keep moisture out until you get a proper seal on it.

here here and a good rubber band will stop it falling off , easy fix for a few days until you get one sorted
