Had a near miss on my last job :o
Cleaning a conservatory roof from my ladders with ladderlimpets fitted when the ladder shot away from the bottom. Ladder styles snagged on the guttering pulling it half off but it held long enough for me to climb down.
Not very high obviously but I've lost my trust in stabilizers now.

Ankalad system. You can use it to a height I can`t remember free standing. Cheap considering it may stop you dying. I`ve picked up twenty odd customers from two guys who had fatal falls.
I`m too heavy for ladders but when I`m not I will only use ankalad or tower. If they aren`t usable at a job I don`t do the job.
Money doesn`t work in Heaven or Hell.

had a near miss few years back when trad ... climbed over a 6foot wall on a terrace property to do rears .. put ladders onto patio other side of wall and started to climb down .. ladders slipped on mossy flags ... stomach went as did my bottle ... silly only a lowish height but still high enough to get injured ... went wfp soon after and sold off all my terraced houses.

wet decking = danger even walking on it its like black ice.

I fell off ladders more than once, from a variety of heights.
- Wet decking
- ice
- attack of the sneezes
- and once I don't even know what happened - window was half squeeged - squeegee was back in the boab - ladder was still up but I was lying on the grass
How I survived 8 years on ladders I've no idea.

I place an old thick bath towel under my ladders on wet decking. I've done this for years and it works a treat.

Ive had more falls with wfp than on ladders , always walking about lookng up and running round with hose ..
Dont miss that feeling when the ladder start s to go though :o

Absolutely Daz! The towel really doesn't move at all, and, believe me, is a lot safer than it may sound! :)

Agree as I have an ankalad fitted to both my triple sets of ladders. Brilliant bit of kit as not only does it stop the ladder slippy backwards or sideways it also takes the bounce out of the ladders too. Using a microlite standoff resting on roof tiles makes gutter clearing etc using ladders much easier and safer to do. The ladder with an ankalad fitted can also be used as a free standing ladder which I use it that way quite a bit when cleaning conservatory roofs etc.
An ankalad folds in against the sides of the stiles when not in use so you always have it handy on a ladder when carting the ladder about. As for slippery surfaces I know the ladder is not going to go anywhere for sure as I've used it on decking that I could hardly stand up on let alone set a ladder.

It's called common working practise which in my book is classed as unsafe working practise in the 21st century. But for me without using good safety gear is not worth risking my life just to earn a few squid that's for sure.

Montego turbo was fast in a straight line but sucked or cornering. ;D

I don't use ladders much but I have a few jobs where I need to go on a flat roof to access a mini-atrium. A couple of the jobs have decking where I need to put the ladder. Luckily, the decking is in the right direction.

I friend of mine used to do that...
One day he placed the bath towel under his ladder, climbed to the top, started cleaning the window - the ladder slipped... He broke both wrists and a leg and had a massive bruise on his head. He's actually lucky that he survived.
He's 100% WFP now - He doesn't even carry ladders anymore.

if you go for a montego countryman estate (now there was a car) ... u will find it has an electric sunroof as standard ... prob wont work though ............ used to have to put drip trays under the new cars in the showroom !!!!!
