I'm replacing a vac motor in my Grace machine, just putting things back together and can't for the life of me remember how to position the little circular baffle with 3 legs that sit on top of motor, do the leg rest on the motor , or does the disc par sit on motor with the leg pointing up so to speak, any help greatly appreciated, also the new motor has nowhere to fix an earth on side of motor ,

The motor will have somewhere to fix an earth. The 3 legs from the plastic part sit on top of the motor. Can you put a link up to the motor you bought ?

This is the model number I got but looks slightly different to the image, I worked out the disc thanks, just had a bit of a mental block, I've the machine back together and I just taped up the earths, do I need to get them earthed somewhere , could I earth them to the pump,, I thought as the plug was earthed that would do

Seamus I'm not an electrician but that motor needs to be earthed. In the grace the earth wires all connect to a little nut and bolt if I remember right. I've used that motor too and there should be an earth wire coming from the motor to the little nut/bolt where the rest all connect. Is there anywhere on the side of the motor away from the other wires where a screw can go in ? I'll dig the grace out the shed 2moro and have a look at the way mine is earthed. Was there not an earth wire on the old motor you took out ?

There was a ground on the old motors a little screw , but not on this one, there is no earth cables with the new motor just 2 grey wires, maybe there is a hole that I can put a screw in That I didn't notice I will have another look in the morning , I fitted one of these motors to the machine 2 years ago and didn't earth it, maybe I've just been lucky lol

Take it to a qualified electrician.
If it is bodged up and anything happens in someones home you will end up not cleaning carpets, or anything else much for a good while.
Get it PAT tested, it is a bit of a pain but will cover you.
It should really be done each year.

if I remember rightly back in the days when I had a ninja and I too prchased motors from wcs I remember on some only had two wires! I think the mounts on a ninja are earthed so the extra wire isnt needed, I may be wrong but I never had a problem in the ten years that I owned them

Spoke to WCS today apparently all thier vac motors are double insulated so no need to earth apparently
