Title: 6mm - 8mm hose
Post by: Window Lickers on November 29, 2014, 12:17:35 pm
What difference does it make if you change from 6mm to 8mm hose on your reel? Will you automatically get more water to the brush head in the same amount of time all other things being equal?

Not much to be honest! I've changed to 8mm because I can never get quite the flow I would like.

Still can't get enough for my liking.

What increase would you reckon you've got Dave? 20%

No, barely noticeable to be honest. You watch the videos of the American guys and they seem to get a deluge of water sheeting down the glass. Not sure why, maybe their high temps or maybe they use bigger jets. I'd rather have too much water and have to throttle it back but usually it's the other way round. The last 1/4 on my controller does little to improve flow.

Don't know, there don't seem to be many high rated pumps about although I have seen them. I think you should buy one  ;)

I think it will make little difference. Your pole hose is probably 5 or 6 mm anyway so that will limit the flow of water. We've used both and noticed no difference whatsoever. The only time there was an issue was when we had 1x 8mm hose and 1x 6mm hose connected to the same system, it didn't like that.

8mm is cheaper.

In reverse ;D- I changed from years of 8mm to 6mm & expected a considerable difference in both pressure & flow. Flow wasn't affected at all & I only had to increase the pressure setting by one value on the Digital MKI Varistream. My pump is a 100psi Surflo although I'm not sure on the output as in Ltrs per minute. I run my varistream on flow setting 2 (goes to 9) for a really good flow. Number 4 has it bouncing off the glass! This is with 100m of 6mm hose.

Only so much water can be forced though your jets per minute, if you want more water use a larger pencil/fan jet size

Thats true but its no good have larger jets if you havent got the balls to get the water through them.

We've always used 100psi 5lpm pumps. 5lpm is generally too much anyway (that'd be the full tank emptied in an hour and a half) so we use a controller.

With normal off the shelf jets?
