i bought a new laptop for work last week as my 5 year old acer aspire is 5 years old now and its getting a little tired now
anyway bought another acer aspire for £230 from asda.installed mcafee anti virus on it (as this is what i used on the previous one.)
i must of downloaded something dodgy as i had loads of pop up adds(couponirific)etc, etc when i logged on here.mcafee fixed or quarateened 3 trojans.i manually uninstalled about 10 dodgy programs.had grooovorio hi- jacking my browser! ::)roll
i was up til 3am this morning sorting it all out! >:(
in the end i downloaded a brilliant program off the internet that got rid of couponirific in 10 mins!
all sorted now.(i think!) ::)roll ;D
anyone else had problems when buying new laptops/computers etc and installing apps and software?
regards

tbh mcfee not too good ............... download malware bytes its free and will find a lot more probably ... ive just upgraded to full package for about £15 which gives real time protection and found 3 more bugs that were trying to access internet from my machine ... think they were bit coin mining programmes.
Also have Microsoft security essentials which is free.
If you go for malware bytes then u will need to bin mcfee but Ms essentials works fine with malware bytes
didn't help that updates for my computer from Microsoft were turned off ... when I realised this it spent hours updating itself ::)roll

Norton is by far the best can usually be bought from Currys for half price used Mcafee once as freebie and found it to be crap
-
Norton, McAfee in fact most virus protection is almost as detrimental to the speed of your computer as viruses themselves.
I use nowt on mine, watch what I download and never have an issue.
If you really must have antivirus, go with avg.
-
Norton & mcafee in my experience have a big impact on the whole system, slowing everything down.
Personally I use Avast - in independent tests it out-performs the others for protection - and I find it has much less impact on the speed of my machine.
But Daz - a £230 machine from Asda? I'm a bit of a computer snob admittedly - but even if you're not going for something high spec, NEVER go for the cheapest option!

My desktop was starting to lag so i got a lenovo laptop from argos i think with a discount and got it for £350 ish
Been brilliant , and i only use it to surf web and cleaner planner and invoicing etc , so hopefully it will stay clean , its really small as well but big enough for everyday use
Also got a really good wireless printer for £40 .. been great for work
I'd like a desktop mac to replace the desktop soon :)
Only downside to the laptop was getting used to windows 8
PS daz , stop downloading the porn and your cpu will be fine ;)

I found Norton and McAfee to be a pain as they were too intrusive and slowed a lot down. I found AVG to be my best bet. N.B. This is old info. Things may have changed.

Das you spend millions on poles and buy the cheapest computer going !
Get a mac , never slows down and doesn't need antivirus and they last !
windows has had its day , its archaic like brodex poles
-
Panda Free Antivirus.
Forget the rest. ;)
-
Malware Bites worked for me when I downloaded Google Chrome from the wrong site.
-
yeah just get a mac. never need anti virus software then. My laptop is still going strong 8 years later

one of my customers today said she still gets problems with mac computers.
all sorted now.a cheap laptop does me.i only use it for printing invoices, internet banking, cleaner planner, ciu, itunes and ....eh...the odd bit of porn!! ;) ;D
and online shopping! ;D
ive got used to windows 8 now.itunes working great now and syncing with my ipod.my browser is working nice and smooth with no pop ups and adverts.no redirecting either.
im pretty impressed with myself that ive managed to sort it as i normally have no patience with computer problems.ive learnt a few things in the process as well! ;)

i have never had to stay up until 3 am getting my mac to work!
open the lid and its instantly on.

Get rid of McAfee and uninstall it from the pc Daz.
It slows your computer down and isn't a good Anti-virus anyway, as you now know.

Not as easy as it sounds...

Get a mac
Couldn't agree more.
Or install Ubuntu (Linux) which costs nothing, dump clunky bloated windows, and install winetricks to run windows programs and say goodbye to viruses, trojans, malware and all of that stuff.

They do slow down, just not as much as windows. Theres no way my mac is as fast as it was the day I bought it.

You need to go to the STI clinic for that.

Haven't read through the post but try Norton 360.
Had it years now and can't fault it. Get multi licence and load on all PC's.
Mc is crap, slows everything down....

There all as bad as each other I used avast anti virus the last 5 years found this the best.
I just go in control panel add or uninstall programs and delete the files out manually then system restart job done 😄
Happened last night while trying to download a movie maker spend 30 mins putting it right again
