Afternoon chaps,
I need to buy a heater to keep in the van over winter.
In the past I used an electric heater but this is not an option now since I moved house.
Can anyone recommend one?

No, Lee has given you a totally honest response. There are a number of windies that have installed these in their vans when they don't have an electric provision. There work extremely well and are economical to run.
I found that response of yours to be quite rude TBH.
We don't usually get the temperature extremes on the North East coast that some do. I heat my van with an electric heater with an added frostat, but we haven't heated my son's van for years. When its cold we pump the water out from the pump and pipe to the van port by unscrewing the pump filter and letting it sick air. We have never had an issue with doing this.
If the van is going to stand for a while we drain the water down to below the baffle line. If the water freezes in the tank then it won't do any damage to the tank.

Its a lot to pay out at first but you would never need to worry about frost protection again for as many years as you work in this trade. Even then it will have a second hand value.
I can run a cable but if I couldn't this would be the only option imo.

The cheapest form of frost protection is to take out the bits you don't want to get frozen and stick em indoors. Just not in your front rooms as your missus if you have one may get rather peed off. ;D

Window cleaning warehouse sell a facelift heater just like the one lee posted.
Not sure if it's the same but the price is very different £523.95 +vat and delivery.

Wow, can't beleive there are no cheaper options.
In previous years I could run an extension lead.....the heater on the end of it only cost £20.

Rather than try heat the inside of the van why not just box the stuff in instead with the likes of kingspan insulation or even use an old duvet or something?

You're better off asking the OP mate, i've not got a problem with getting an oil filled into the van...

You may joke but I've see ppl driving around with woodburning stoves in what I call trees huggers vans.
Their chiminea/wood burning stove is made out of an old gas bottle most of the time too ;D

Make sure you system is completely empty every night when it freezes push water through hoses with a home made valve to go on van tyre, that will use a bit of the air to push all the water out, ideally use a spare wheel or 12v air compressor. If its empty it cant freeze set pump up on quick release so you can take it inside. Run a piece of tumble dryer duckting from heater blower to back of van let van run half hot in morning will heat back if van up just a few ideas that worked for me
