Title: Doff-How Much-buy or make?
Post by: Nameless Drudge on November 26, 2014, 06:37:13 pm
I wondered if anyone on here has considered making there own.I have managed to see one picture of a unit which is this below,

http://www.stonehealth.com/uncategorised/a-successful-trial-with-a-doff-in-an-unusual-setting/

It seems to be a revered system but I know nothing about them.Surely it can`t be actually magic !

Am looking for any helpful info at all, regards.

Its an electric pressure washer. Low psi/flow and high heat. Chris will be along shortly to tell you what you need to make one. The problem lies in the hoses/fittings/o ring etc that go along with using 150 - 160 degree heat/steam

15-17 secs of this video shows the  red doff parked next to a petrol washer.

I read on the stonehealth site that servicing includes a new ceramic nozzle and safety valve. I dont fancy standing next to a diy one if it goes pop!

How much are they? My hunch  for a full set up is £6k plus and that it might be possible to assemble something equal at £3k using new.

As much as i think stonehealth talk it up, its the TORC system that they say will remove carbon. The DOFF is used for vegetation etc..

used to be a kranzle k7/120 run through a 21 litre hotbox to get 150 degrees steam but now I think they use what looks like an interpump. they are very sneaky by selling a machine for 6K that can be built by anyone and never taking full on pictures so no one can see what pump it is  ;D

A Honda GX160 5.5HP,Interpump AT 11 L/MIN might suffice then,150 bar though.Turn it down a little I guess.This is coupling it with a 21 litre hot box.

Reason for wanting it-  Monocouche render, large appt block,,no chems, nasty staining from individual appts run off from balcony decking and metalwork and black staining coming down from roof line which I think is some sort of oxidation run off. I can`t offer clean and repaint so looking for the clean to excel.

Do a test first...I think you will struggle even with steam. Do you have pictures?

The very first picture top left is ground level,i scrubbed it with a high alkaline general cleaner and didn't make any impression at all.

Done a few of these pal and not mastered them. If our client wanted to proceed into complete removal I'd have given them more attention but they were happy. I was also thinking along the line of an oxidisation, preferably from the galvanised steel. We tried Oxalic, no change.

The black streaks are  fungus thought to be a form of  Cladosporium spp or Alternaria spp ...a mold .
Only chemical cleaning will remove it.  As it "stains" the surface

They are not a "metallic run off, either from bolts or framework"!! The roof copings look like stone .
The walk ways/patio's and  their fitting and fixtures are galvanised and stainless steel ;D

"match up the paint colour and go in with the offer to repaint specific areas" Do not get involved in that.
