Just looked on window cleaning rounds for sale,does anyone know who is selling the round in Crawley ?

You would need to check up on the work because Crawley has a very high percentage of terraced houses with no rear access (only access via the house). Also, there can be access issues by hose due to the large amount of courts and walkways - particularly in much of Bewbush and Broadfield. Plus there can be serious parking issues - though the wardens tend to be OK in the resident only zones so long as they see that work is taking place with the hose coming out of the van.. This mostly applies in the older parts of town. The newer parts are an improvement regarding housing layout.. So I would suggest insisting on checking out the work before parting with money. It may well be that everything is fine but do take care.

Sounds like my sort of round with no rear access and parking restrictions.. Would be plenty of room for expansion in that area.

Trust me, you wouldn't put up with it very long. That's why I generally avoid the older estates around here and go out of town for so much of my work :) .

Some parts of Bewbush are reasonably OK but, as you say, much of it would have access problems. If someone were to buy this work, they would probably need to cherry pick the jobs - something that a seller probably wouldn't allow. If it's not the terraced houses, it might be suitable for a ladder user.

he sounded genuine and agreed that some of the work would be easier off a ladder,although he is wfd,also all houses were £10 total for front and back,whilst the houses dont have many windows,and compact,its the access with hose,getting gates unlocked etc.
my job average is £17 so if i took on the work that would bring my average down.

Yeah me too. I have a few gaps to fill though nothing to terrible. 50 more x 6 weekly residential customers should be thereabouts - with some more once spring comes. I want to drop about 10 too but will wait till I've replaced them.

the trouble with stuff like this is at that price I would get way more work just by spending the money on marketing. Suppose you lose half the customers in the first few months? I live in Crawley and did think about ringing this guy today after seeing this thread but I think I would rather just get twice the amount of customers for the same money who have chosen to use us.

Self generated and canvassed work is the way to go,minimal cost involved and you can target the work you want.

Yes and no... I think it works well for you Lee as you have a very good system in place where you don't need to keep going out canvassing and quoting for work yourself, you are very well established with a few guys working for you and you don't even need to answer the phone for new business - in my opinion an excellent way to do it. So in that instance I would agree spend the money on marketing and watch the work fly in.
In the other instance a smaller enterprise would probably look at expanding with less hassle that comes with new cleans and messers, quoting, scheduling etc by buying some well established work. Personally after a year deliberating on whether I should buy new work or spend the money marketing I bought a very well established round which fitted superbly with my current work. So the next step would be to spend money on marketing as I now have the man power to get on with the new work as it comes in.
