Title: There's always one...
Post by: David stewart on November 14, 2014, 02:14:02 pm
You know the type, cleaning a property and the neighbour walks up in her best track suit saying she needs a regular window cleaner. I said to myself this one wont last past the first clean. Agree a price and do the windows, lovely job says she and I say she you in four weeks, only problem being it had to be a text the night before as gates are locked.
2nd clean, no problems.
I text her the night before the 3rd clean to which I got the reply she wasn't happy with the 2nd clean as the windows were dirty and she thought she deserved a free clean. After further enquiries, she revealed that the windows were clean for a week until a storm hit making the windows dirty. I said my usual 24 hour guarantee speech and outside that I cannot be held responsible for what happens and I especially can't be held to a week after they had been cleaned. Anyway, after seeing the error of her ways, she concluded by saying give them a miss this time but to do them in 4 weeks.
I text the night before as usual to which I got no reply telling me not to bother or whatever. As I cleaned the windows I got the feeling someone was in the house and I hadn't left 10 minutes when I got the text in the finest of queens english, and I quote "Dident get ur txt did want windows clend"  ??? :o ::)roll

After someone negotiation apparently this meant she didn't want them cleaned.
After a call to pick up payment she is refusing to pay even though I have tried explaining that she told me the month before to leave them to next time, this being next time.

I was always taught to never judge a book by its cover but do you ever get the feeling that your initial judgement of a person when they walk up is nearly always a good guess as to how your experience as their window cleaner is about to pan out?

If i get that feeling i always charge alot more for first cleans, customer can take it or leave it, most of the time you should go with your gut feeling.

If they except higher price great, if they dont oh well

Me again ...

Of course if you're a vindictive petty little git (like me) you can say "no worries - ask me when you need them doing again".  When they ask you in about a year's time say - "ever so sorry, I'm a bit low on water/short on time, maybe next time you catch me?"

If you can hold your nerve say it again next time they ask you (hopefully it will be just before Xmas this time) and then the third time finally say "I'm sorry I'm so busy with my regular reliable customers I don't have time to fit people in who tell me they want a regular cleaner and then decide they don't. Bye."

Just part and parcel of the learning curve of building my round, she has been resigned to the scrap heap  ;D
Still going to call everytime I'm passing through, I must have my flouncing technique perfected beforehand  :P
