Post by: Ian Gourlay on November 14, 2014, 01:09:04 pm
In America and Australia the Average New Build is over 200 sq metres

In UK its 76 sq Metres

Could explain why Carpet Cleaners are Rich in States

Why do they all do 3 rooms for $99 then?

On average Uk carpet cleaners earn more than our USA counterparts, plus we are more skilled

How do I know??

Becuase I'm a sad foocker who not only read this forum but also the USA ones, I see people bragging about 100k earning like us as though it's a mythical number but they mean dollars. They have 60$ min charges and will travel 30 miles for it.

They are constantly competing against the $9 a room bate and switch companies.

Although this is just my opinion after reading their forum for the last 12yrs

I know 2 carpet cleaners in this US. One in New York and one in Miami.  Can assure you Ian that what Mike implies is correct - the the average price per square meter they can get is far less than we do over here.
In terms of house sizes - the one in Florida might have larger units but a lot less carpet in proportion to size.

Given the choice I'd rather work the UK in terms of turnover & profit than the US.

OK, I work London and accept that my prices might be substacially higher than some other parts of the UK - but even so

Not been on the US forums for a while but from what I remember most were charging good rates. A lot where stating turnovers of $1k - $2k a day to be the norm for owner operators.

Forum BS maybe but there where all pretty much saying the same thing.

Why not ask Dave L who has worked in both countries and has a business in both.

I think the us cleaners are more into the up sell $99 for 4 areas then add deodorizor and protector then it could be worth double not sure if they move furniture in with the cheaper prices.

I cant imagine why people wonder what other companies are doing 3000 miles away in a different environment.
Americans have a different mindset and market things much differently than we do.....so what they earn and how they market is of no significance to UK companies.

Also most of their carpets are polyprop, which are mush easier to clean, so there is no comparison to be made in what they charge to here in the UK.
