Has any body got their head around these vacs yet ?
-
NO still struggling with Billy’s small blower V lm or have I missed something? :o ;D
-
I've had another go on the storm, it's only been used a hand full of times. Think I may change for 5.7 as the 6.6 seem to be problematic.
-
I know it sounds obvious but do you ever leave the lid on the waste tank when not using the machine Paul?
-
Have spoken to a few people who have decided to stop offering machines with these motors due to reliability issues.
-
Had my Storm with 6.6 motors nearly three years and still on original motors, i did buy a spare vac motor as i'm sure it will go sooner rather than later but still sucking good :). I always run for a few minutes after every job to make sure they are dry.
-
A mate of mine in Staffored bought a new Storm and it blow a motor after about two weeks, saying thatit was eight months ago and its been fine ever since, I was looking at the Airflex range last week at John Kellys place and must admit they are a quality bit of kit

I've only had one issue and that was the early motors bearing housing was not strong enough, I had one fail and Cleansmart replaced it under warranty with the improved version. If you were inclined to switch to 5.7's just get an Airflex Pro vac mounting plate, easy job.
-
Like iv probably said a dozen times ... if you are fitting 5.7s get these tapered electros ...
and the gasket mentioned on the page .
This version is a bit more powerfull than the HD electro ashbys and others fit .

You sure you don't mean Cleansmart, didn't know John Kelly sold the Airflex

Just looked on johns Web Site could not see them but probaly selling them fast
-
John, have you got a link to a UK supplier and if I fitted one with the other 6.6 then would that be ok or would I be better off replacing with two 5.7
-
John Kelly sells the electro I think £98 plus vat

Personally i would fit two electors instead of mixing with the 6.6 as one of the strong points of the electro is the high lift , the 6.6 may cause a slight lift drop in parallel when paired with that three stage .
I will get the link for the UK supplier later , i have it somewhere .
You could order from larry cobb as the link i posted is the 230v version ... phone them insted of ordering online . and ask them to ship usps to save costs . I bet i would work out cheaper or the same as getting them from a uk supplier .
You could just fit the HD electro that most of the uk suppliers sell ... its powerfull also but the version i posted has a rounded bottom like the 6.6 so shares that technology fan wise ... and its pretty much the same price . But u do need the extra thick gasket mentioned on the order page for the round bottom .

There are a few versions though .. and they all look the same so u have to go by model number .

Cheers John, no specs on thus but I guess this is similar and suitable ?

And I'm guessing that these are the copies that are no good

No , both of those look like low powered Ameteks or similar .
If you have a storm you should probably maintain the theme of high performance so either give the 6.6 another go ... or go the 1600w electro route .
If so at least get two of the 6600-49 model , Ashbys or cleansmart can supply these . They are rated at 560 airwatts .
The version from larry cobb is the 6600-47 conical bottom , rated 585 airwatts .
You might be able to get the 6600-47 from some of the suppliers in the UK , electro gave me this address to contact j.brown@maltonplastics.com
but i dont know anything about them , make sure u get the model version u need and dont get talked into buying what ever they have in stock if they dont have it .
-
Malton Plastics are the UK agents as far as I am aware. Thats what they claim anyway.
They offer 11 versions of the 5.7"
-
Had my storm for 2 years now and still on the original vacs.
Best portable I have owned in 25 years.
-
I notice on Altecs website they Electro motors but market them as low power or high power !

the high power is the 6600-49 1600w or so
the low power is the 6600-117 1200w
-
Doh, think I would go for the high power, maybe have three in my Scorpy
-
Can you fit a 5.7 vac on a jag? As mine goes through its 6.6 vacs like one every four months and its costing me a fortune, I would sell machine but I lease it, so feel frustrated by the whole thing.
-
Md, do what I'm doing in my storm, replace both vacs with 😙 5.7
-
Cheers Paul

In your case you would be attaching the internal hoses direct to the motor ...
so if your fitting the 5.7s mentioned earlier you would choose the metal hose adapter ... see it mentioned below the motor description , you would not need the gasket .

or Alltec or others may have them available for the 6600-49 version they sell
-
M D cleaning
you would be better converting it into a scorpion and use three 5.7 vacs
-
He'd really be better off pushing it off a cliff ...
but converting to a scorpion is no quick n easy undertaking ... repositioning
the motors , drilling the side connector hole , sourcing the various hoses check valve etc , adding another switch .
I think you would be surprised what two of the High power electros can do and fitting them could be an hours work .
-
Now now John, youknow you dont mean that ! Poor scorpy
