I am considering a business partner at present with someone that has the same drive to working as myself must have your own work in the eastbourne area to the value of approx 3000 a month.im waterfed pole and have a full system and poles for 2 people .

Stick on your own! You've struggled through the hard times to get work and seems like you got a decent round going now! Why give half to someone that doesnt have to work their balls off like you will of had to(unless you bought the work)

yeah the idea was that someone had wat ive got work wise but fancied a work buddie so not giving away any work just working together to get work done.i find im more motivated wen with company

Well its pointless starting a partnership if you both have around 3k a month.... Thats not to far from employing someone if you have the ambition:)

see where ur coming from but get a bad partner and u will be even less motivated.
staffing not a nightmare if you advertise and interview correctly
what about a part timer for 2 days a week ??

working together (work buddie) doesn't mean you accomplish twice the work in a day. We have founds its around 130 to 140% of what I do on my own. It also slows me down so isn't because my work buddie is slow.

Exactly right ;)
I found through long experience that two people working together can't achieve twice as much as one person working on his own. It's even worse when you have two people working on the same house (unless it's a huge mansion).
The only way I managed to make it work when I had employees (two to a van) was to ensure they each had their own list of houses to do at each stop, trying to make the lists as equal as possible. Even then there was a considerable drop in work rate, as one would always be faster than the other, so would have to wait for the other one to fininsh before moving on to the next block of work.
OK if all the work was 'side by side' - a full days work for two men without moving the van but that's impossible day after day.
Having a work buddy for company is fine, but you need to be prepared to work much longer days to maintain your income level, or be satisfied with less money!!

how can you struggle to motivate yourself when its your own business/earnings etc?

If youre going to take a business partner, take someone that can drive the business forward, someone that has a different skillset to your own, so that together, you are a complete package.

been there done it... it might work for a little while, but it wont last.
