I recently had my breakdown cover renewal through from the AA.
£210 for my van and mrs car which is £60 more than last year and about £90 more than Green Flag have quoted for similar level of cover.
Has anyone used Green Flag and been happy with service or not so happy?

I get Grrenflag cover as part of my Natwest Gold account.
I've had to use it twice, both times they were with me within half an hour. They have their own vehicles and also use subcontractors from approved garages.
I'd recommend them from my experience with them.

Yeah I did that last time and they did discount from their initial quote, but they still try to whack it up every year.
But im not sure they are worth more than the others, they have never been out within an hour, usually 1-2 hours wait.
This looks interesting:

called green flag out last month out within 50 mins very good bloke had me on my way within 10 mins last company was call assist took 2 hours even after telling them I was stuck on a corner breakdown truck was a disgrace and operator didn't know what he was doing ended up damaging caravan

I now use Greenflag and would recommend them over and above others. They 'guarantee' a 30 minute call out or your next year is half price. I have called them out twice, both were over the 30 minutes but within an hour, this year I have paid half price.
I used to be in the RAC for nearly 15 years, called them out twice in that period and both occasions were nearly 3 hours. The last one was on a Sunday in central London and they told me they were really busy, to which my reply was how can you be so busy on a Sunday in London, surely in the week your clients must be waiting all day if thats the case. I told them it was unacceptable, they were out in about 2 hours. I got out of the driver that they have a priority list, being a bloke on my own in a side street i was bottom of the waiting list, had i have been a single mother with small children blocking a main road they'd be out in 20 minutes. AA has a similar waiting list on breakdowns. Therefore generally as i drive on my own i thought it best to opt for Greenflags 30 minute guarantee system.
On both occasions they were great, the last one my clutch went, they organised a quote for me and offered to drop me at the garage, it was a bit too expensive so asked them to drop me home with the car about 5 miles away which they did no problem.

I have to say I've got nothing but praise for the RAC.
I started with them almost by accident as I needed a new battery for the car.
It was extortionate everywhere. Even RAC.
But the guy sold me a policy with a 'battery cover' upgrade for less than a tenner.
Couldn't make a 'claim' on the battery for 24 hours.
So, next morning, I jump started the car from the van, all good.
The following morning-Christmas eve-I called them, and they were at my house sharpish.
Battery orders but couldn't be fitted until Boxing Day. I wasn't bothered.
Boxing Day-lunchtimeish-fella calls "got a battery for you, when would be convenient?"
Long to short-3 hours later I had a brand new battery for less than £130 and a years cover.
Battery alone was £500.
Last month-blow out on M1.
Spare wheel is a folding wall type jobbie. It's popped off the rim.
Fella arrives (highways agency been informed too) can't do it there and then.
Takes the wheel into Sheffield to garage 'he knows' they pop the tyre back on. He drives back out to me and puts the spare on. All told-about an hour and a half.
(Did have the children in the car though-dunno if that assisted expediency)
Can't recommend RAC highly enough.
Green Flag-a few years ago mind-spot on too.
Cam belt snapped on the wife's car while we were about 150miles from home.
M1 (again) but London way. They picked us up (no children at that point) within 30 minutes, put the car on the back of a wagon, drove to my mates house to pick up our gear, stopped at the services so we could get a brew then drove us to the garage we used to drop the car off, then took us home.
That came free with the bank account we had.
I think they're all much of a muchness now tbh.
You can have a good or bad experience with any company.
I personally will be staying with RAC as the battery thing was a great deal.

RAC business cover.
Covers 4 of us in our vehicles or as passengers in other vehicles.
It was £20 total paid mothly D/D. On renewal they wanted to increase it to £27 a month, I was incensed. In the year we had called them out twice with one resulting in a replacement battery on my daughters car where we paid the engineer £130
When I rang I asked the guy for the name of the director who thought I was stupid enough to pay the increase, I also asked if he had had a 40% pay rise.
He then reduced it to £18 monthly for the same cover, but it was their internet rate, my arse.
We will see what happens next year.

I was with RAC previously for years with my van and mrs car, but I switched to AA mainly because the RAC moved the goalposts and were telling me I HAD to have a business policy for the van.
The other Breakdown companies i've contacted don't have a problem with it unless you have a fleet of vehicles.
So the RAC lost my business on principle.

I've used these for the last 7 years http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/
Costs £39 per year, you pay the company who come for the repair/recovery and then claim back. Only had to claim once but paid out in 7 days.
