I was cleaning a 4 bedroom house with large conservatory last week (a mates parents house)
She asked me "could you come and clean the conservatory roof asap please"
So today i text saying due to the damp weather this is perfect weather for it so i will come and clean the roof for £40 (thats mates rates!!!)
Got a text back saying "that seems a little expensive but yes ok"
Cheeky B****** any other person that roof would easily be £50-60!!!
So i text back-
Hi, sorry to here you thought we were a little expensive. Can i ask how much you thought it would be? As we clean your house windows every month for £15.00 and the conservatory roof only a gets done once a year so will take considerably longer, thanks"
I got a reply saying " thats ok see you soon"

That's why I say away from mate rates
-
Don't do mates rates. Don't work for any mates. I recommend other firms that I know are good. Big bubbles, no troubles ;)

i quoted 15 for windows , did first clean and she said next time can i do roof.
so next time comes and she asked me to do roof(in a text) i said yes ok roof will be 30 pound which was bloody cheap seems it was mingin, she couldnt understand why i would charge double the windows price for it that she cancelled the windows altogether, too expensive she said. i encouraged her to get a quote from a conservatory cleaning company who would prabably charge her 100 plus.
totally agree they really dont understand
-
SOME STILL DONT UNDERSTAND WHY I LEAVE TOP WINDOWS WET, when bottom ones are squeegeed dry, more in deph explanations into pure water filtration, this usually baffles them ans shuts them up.
Do they understand you cannot stand on a conny roof unless you have a ladder, hard work if your new to it, and dont have gear to do it with.
-
as you say companies describing themselves ac Conservatory cleaning specialists charge a bigger price,
this is because the customer seems to think they specialise in Conservatory cleaning only.
Most are window cleaners with this added on .
The customer just think they are getting the Pro s in to do a better job ;D
-
I had one a few months think it would be £2 for a conny roof ... I kid you not !

i hate being put in the position of them thinking im ripping them off

Neither do I.

When i dont know them i dont care about their reaction because i simply say our pricing is based on us taking 1-2 hours and using the correct safety procedures.
9/10 that sells it

You should always be able to justify your price.
-
dont get me wrong some people are more than happy, others are just insulted lol
-
i have posted before about the "conservatory mindset"
in my experience regular window cleaning customers look at the number of windows for the price you charge and then in their minds eye look at the roof and compare the two....they then ask for a price, expecting it to be roughly near the window clean price, and then are shocked !!!!
Now the other customer you come across, website inquiry, etc, as no price condition / comparison and probably looks at you, has mentioned before, as some sort of professional, and is not shocked by your price.................so new customers are in my opinion the ones you want for conny cleaning
-
I find this concept very weird and here's why...
I too have custys that won't pay reasonable money to have their conny roofs cleaned.
They come out with crap like "I only want you to give it a quick brush over" etc etc
Now, I hate doing SFG cleans due to tennis elbow but when a custy asks I say (quite firmly) the price is £160. I only do them on a Saturdays and I am booked up 6 weeks in advance. I do everything I can to NOT sell it and I literally get every one.
Very weird!

No, you should never go down the road of even trying to. I make about £50.00 an hour doing gutters and conny roofs. You're never going to be able to justify that to a customer who sees you as just a window cleaner.
-
I just dont understand whatso ever... People pay £1000s of pounds for nice conservatorys yet when it comes to maintaining them they worry about a daft £50-80 a year clean ???
But they will happily pay £5-7 to get their car washed every week or 2

Agreed makes a lot of sense

In time you just develop a thicker skin.
Personally I would worry if I WAS ripping them off as I wouldn't be happy living with myself if that were the case. As regards all else our moto is:
"Just because they say it doesn't mean they are right."
We try not to take it personally. A good business relationship is a win win situation. If the balance is skewed, ie win loose, then it becomes a relationship that won't last.

The thing is most don't consider the price to maintain them when getting one, its the same with upvc fascias most people
get them fitted because they think they are a maintenance free option, no more having to fork out for a painter every
few years.
Then when they realise that they have to pay to get them cleaned it comes as a bit of a shock.

lots of customers havent got a clue how long or the work it takes to get a conservatory roof cleaned properly.when i mention the finials, outside gutters, etc, etc and loads of water you need to use to get them gleaming they often change their mind and agree my price.
lots dont though.id say nearly 50% wont pay to have their roof cleaned at my prices which is not overly expensive either.
sod em.im really not bothered TBH.im busy enough without conny roofs.
i have got one at the end of the month though booked in for when i clean the windows.glass roof £120 (including windows) .should be done in 2 to 2 and a half hours tops.

I had one a few months think it would be £2 for a conny roof ... I kid you not !
Wow i have had close. 4 panel conny (tiny) She said would it be less than £20, so i looked at it and thought hmmmmm I could actually get that done in 30 mins and i am already set up for windows on house. Yeah why not. Call it £20 i said. She said i will pay you now. House was £15. So she came out with £20. I said it will be £35 inc the windows. She thought i was going to do the roof for a £5. I actually said it's an insult and she moaned. I still clean her house, waiting for her to ask about the roof. Will be £40 now as it was over 6 months ago she asked.
Customer last year said i will give you a fiver to clean my front fascia (would be about £50 for 1hours work (awkard and big), if i wasnt set up) Was a bad day for me. "ohhhhh yes please mate, pretty bad times at the moment. Fiver will come in handy". He knew i was taking the p and said just leave it lol
-
I can beat all these cheapie prices. I had one customer want me to clean the front fascia of her house for free cause I was 'already there'.
-
I minute a customers draws my integrate through into dispute its game over as far as I am concerned.

think from now on im going to charge ridiculous prices, that way if they agree im on a good earner , if they say no then lost nothing, there a pain in the ass and dread doing them

Don't go ridiculous.
Price it up on regularly hourly rate and double it.
It's kinda not ridiculous but makes the job a lot easier to stomach if it's a crap one.
I priced up a roof about 18 months ago. Customer then had it done twice a year. After the last clean she moved it to monthly.
Double bubble on a practically clean roof.
She's over the moon.
And so am I.
Try to think 'glass half full'

I enjoyed cleaning them me, you save fuel not driving around all day, there is a lot of satisfaction out of seeing a job well done aswell
