Title: Bad back
Post by: LWC on October 05, 2014, 06:40:33 pm
Im really struggling with with upper back at mo, i can only say its the pole. I use a clx 22 and superlite medium mixed brush, i work 5 - 6 days a week with it. I wouldnt say its a heavy pole. Would you say its worth getting something lighter?

Ive just looked and slx 18 and clx 18 isnt much different. Extreme is lighter but i cant justify spending like £470 on a 18ft pole.

Anyone else suffer? Its inbetween my shoulders. Pain is constantly there.

it could be your method,  are your arms in the down position?  are you constantly stretching?

you might need a longer pole!!! so you can keep you arms and elbows down...

Maybe it's your technique rather than the pole, it sounds like you may be standing too close to the wall and having to look up at an acute angle which will stress your spine.

I normally stand 8 to 10 feet away ( where poss ) further on higher levels

I get a bad back from cleaning upholstery, I find that a massage on a Sunday helps and also helps with the stress. Costs £22 for an hour.

I dont think i stand too close, to be honest i use all the sections so i can stand back, especially for wiping sills etc.

How do you mean "are you arms in the down position" ?

are your elbows bent and facing down and on your side, not straight and outstreached?

I would imagine like others have said its technique are your hands
going above chest level on a regular basis you want as little strain
as possible from your movement and any side ways movement are
you using your arms or your body as a whole.

Personally on normal window cleaning my hands rarely go above
chest level and any sideways movement the pole stays close to my
body so all and not individual muscles take the strain

I use a clx27 now and don't feel any strain

Apologies for the disgusting image but the best description I've heard of the correct hand position is that the lower hand should, if you were to remove the pole, look like you were pulling off sopmeone standing alongside you and just behind you.

Hands below shoulders at all times.

Change technique and switch to an Xtreme brush superlites are like house bricks .

The rigidity of an SLX will also help when and if you decide to upgrade
