Title: Scam
Post by: Gavin Reardon on April 10, 2006, 02:29:43 pm
Hi all

This has been sent to me by a friend and the scam is real!!!

If you receive a card through your door from a company call PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) saying that they have a parcel awaiting delivery
instructions and can you contact them on 0906 6611911

DO NOT CALL the number as this is a mail scam originating from Belize

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact

Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655
or ICTIS at
Or your local trading standards office.

This is a genuine scam.

ICTIS have the following information about this number.

This is a card posted through your letter box from PDS Parcel Delivery
suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and to call the premium rate number in question. This service costs £15.00 plus £1.50 per minute.

This service is under investigation by ICSTIS.
Please be aware of this scam and forward this information to as many as possible.

Should you receive a card from this company please follow the above instructions

Hope this helps

Gavin

The scam is true enough but the info regarding it is not!

You cannot be charged £15 in this country for connecting a call.

The maximum you can be charged per minute in this country for a premium rate call is currently £1.50 per minute.

I agree with Gavin atleast he took the time n trouble to make us aware of whats going on out there !!!

Thank you Gavin much appreciated especially in companies where staff would have inadvertantly rang the number they dont check the small print about charges and even if they do would they care how much the company pays to retrieve a parcel ?

So people warn staff, family and especially the elderly.... Instead of trying to figure out the nitty gritty of it !

Then they are wrong.

Pds is run by a company called Heaven communications, which is owned and run by a piece of lowlife scum called Tim Kitching who has been fined in the past heading up £150,000 by ICSTIS (the regulatory body in the UK).

Rob/Craig
I've got a crisp £20 that wagers when you call up ICSTIS (http://www.icstis.org.uk/)- 0800 500 212 You get the same answer that I first posted. ;)

If ICSIS know this is a SCAM, why do they not suspend the telephone number.

**The maximum you can be charged per minute in this country for a premium rate call is currently £1.50 per minute**

ive just found out they are shut down, it was traced back to Belize Central America, so ICSTIS will would not know of the laws in other countries, *so in this country* does not apply.

i cant see why they would high light it if what u says right, i mean there loads what about the EARN £800 A WEEK CALL 0901 why do they not make news then?  there posted over every town.

posting ofcoms website proves nothing, my source is the bbc, police and royal mail.

what do you know we dont?

you yet to prove it with a creditable source.

In this country does apply as the company was not based in this country but the number was. The international dialing code for Belize is 501 by the way.

I posted ofcoms website and contact details so you could ask them....I've given you the 2 most reputable sources on Telecoms in the country and you have poo pooed them both..in favour of a company who can't even get me my post on time (if at all!!)

*phone scams; These can vary greatly in detail but in general the end result is the same. You will lose money. Unfortunately this is also an area where it is difficult to give specific advice.

The whole world of phone scams is shrouded in genuine money making schemes coupled with urban myth and legends.

Question – 'I have been told that certain calls require you to press 9 for further information and at this point you get connected to a premium rate number which even if you hang up the call continues for another five minutes. My friend got a bill for £260 from BT'

Answer – Technically it is possible on certain exchanges and systems somewhere in the world but normally only if the west wind is blowing and there is a vowel in the month. *

from a reiliable source the police,

they seem to think its possible, also it said 090 numbers can be doubled up to charge more. maybe this is how it was done.
