After using our current rotary machine for the past year I am now looking to upgrade to a better machine, primarily with a bit of weight for diamond polishing and was just wondering what everyone else is using?

We have 4 Wirbel machines in use daily for most of our work.
We have some bigger planetary stuff we use from time to time and when we need something really specific for more challenging tasks we use Tiling Logistics Hire Service.

Without getting too complicated there are machines and machines. There is also a massive difference between run of the mill marble polishing versus marble grinding and honing. Essentially any good weighted rotary such as the Klindex Rocky or the Wirbel Jamie mentions will polish marble and do basic honing. The difference is these machines are not capable of advanced restoration such as Diamond Grinding (i.e. cutting lippage, flattening floors using Metal sintered diamonds). To do this you need Power, Torque and Speed and that usually involves something like a Klindex Levighetor or similar. This machine gives you 4HP motor and up to 3500rpm depending on the model and the planetario head fitted and of course this machine is capable of the run of the mill polishing as well!
Imagine for example you have to drill 20 x 18mm holes 8inches deep in brickwork and you have an 18 Volt Makita Battery Drill. The 18 Volt Makita will do it albeit very slowly and with a lot of changing of batteries and putting massive load on the drill! Then I come along to do the same job with my Professional Hilti or Metabo to do the same job. I would be home with the job complete by the time you were on your 3rd or 4th hole. That is the difference between a Mono Speed Rotary and a Levighetor.

Hi Ian,
I posed this very issue myself recently..and after looking around, doing the research and talking with experienced people in the business of natural stone restoration, I settled on the Klindex Kroma as a happy and affordable medium. It also has a 4hp motor. I find it perfect for cleaning and polishing and grinding in residential environments, and can also be equiped with a planetary head for the heavier grinding work if needed.
