Title: sizo of leisure battery
Post by: johnny bravo on September 28, 2014, 06:29:42 pm
is there much difference in the size of leisure batteries,    theres one in halfords @ £89 115ah,    i would just be using it as and when,  for wfp cleaning set up to a pump + controller                        it will not be connected to car battery,       just simple to start with  so i can bring out to charge when needed,  till i get the knowledge

some are a bit cheaper via ebay,       but if dud or not working 100%  it would be pricy to send back,
if local i can just collect

Butting & bobbing?
I wouldn't bother mate.
Get down the scrap yard. Get a 2nd hand one for a tenner.
That will honestly be just fine.

In general the larger the better as you have more charge and get more work out of them, if your only doing 3 of 4 hours WFP a day you could get by on an 85 ah battery.

Having brought a few batts over the years, I'd steer clear of cheap ones, they rarely make it past 1 winter.

I've brought 3 from the local caravan supplies shop and they have held their charge really well and gone through 2 winters (mild ones it has to be said)

+1

My advise is DON'T buy one from Ebay. I bought a so called 110 amp leisure battery from a "top seller". It lasted about 6 months and when I took it to a local battery specialist, he said it was a Mercedes Sprinter (re stickered as leisure) battery and was about 4 years old!

 ???

Since then I've bought second hand batteries from scrappies and most have lasted 6-9 months

Ronnie b who is also on here, uses a 33 amp yuasa leisure battery and it easily lasts him all day.

He charges it every night or every second night and it's about 3 or 4 years old.

Because of that I now use yuasa batteries and can't recommend rh
Enough. I use 110 amp yuasa leisure battery and it's been great. A year old now and hardly loses any voltage after a days work. I charge it twice a week.

would it be ok  just using a normal battery charger,      or do you use anything  recomended better as charging the leisure battery,

i may start off using a car battery to begin with before i get a leisure battery.    hust to get some hands on experience,      i will then be able to compare them with the work i do.

Better to charge a leisure battery with an intelligent type battery charger. Ordinary battery charger OK for starter batteries.

Ctek mxs 5.0 is the charger I use.

It's awesome.

Even brought a few dead batteries back to life with its recon setting.
