Craig

I have not got one as yet due to not having the time to sit down to put one together. I think that they are a good idea because you can put the basic info on your leaflets, but include your web address in big letters for them to browse at your leasure. As to whether a single page over an all singing and dancing one with links is best, is something for you to decide.

Somebody told me once, a customer of mine whos a bailiff, that his relative designs them, but can fix it so they are always on top of the pile when a search engine is used. I.E carpets cleaners in Bristol, your's would be the first one. Whether this is true or not, i can't really say.

Another thing is as well, you can include lots of pictures on a website, but on an A5 leaflet you are limited. If like me, you only ever target the new estates, where on many occasions the young professionals live, so more than likely they would be frequent pc users.

I have had few jobs from yell.com

Domain name should be the one that could be simple to remember, sometimes for potential customer it is easier to keep in mind the web name than a phone number.

Arthur

Craig,

You can use templates provided by hosting companies.  The templates are free and very easy to use, just type in your text and insert photos/pictures.  I host with fasthosts.co.uk , but would advice you to take a look at 1and1.co.uk

Arthur

Hosting should cost under £5 per month (http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/HostingHome;jsessionid=DCFDDA0EBE5D38FF92EBEDA02CE3365E.TC32a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static), but there might be special offers, like first 6 months free, etc
Hope it helps,
Arthur

I would advise to host your web with bigger companies, but the choice is yours.

does enough work come in from it to be worth doing?

We got email enquiries from my website, our new customers tell us that they viewed our website before contacting us, we got a local job from a company which is located couple of hundreds miles from us (yell.com), majority of one-off jobs come from yell.com as well.

I think website is another type of brochure, which is available to view 24/7.  You can say as much or as little as you like over there, you can change the text/design etc at any time.  My personal view that these days website is a must for every business regardless its size.

Arthur

I use 1&1 about £30 per year inc a good web page maker. I have a simple site which I am in the process of revamping. Even so I get one or two a month from it.

Hi,

Having a website definately pays off.  There is a forum member who is selling websites (+ support + updates) for about £150.  He is a nice guy and helped us a lot in setting up our site and the off the shelf package he is selling is well worth the money.  He is a carpet cleaner so has a great understanding of our business and what the customer wants from a website.

I think he even does some SEO on the sites bought from him.

www.capitalcarpetcare.co.uk (is his CC site)
www.transwebdesign.co.uk (is his web company)

He carries my personal recommendation, so if your interested in buying a website then give him a call.

Hope this helps

Still, for SEO/updates and support i think thats a decent price.  Apologies for any confusion.

Hi Rob,
I can only assume you don't know your designer copied images
from my site. He could not be bothered scanning, removing the original background
colour and replacing it with one of his choice. Much easier to set the background colour the same as mine and use my images without asking.
Not surprising he can do it for £150.
Oh well, I suppose I`ll take it as a complement.  :-\
Normally it wouldn't bother me, but as  I put together sites
for other C/Cs and is a fairly important part of my income, which help me invest in my
C/C business, I do get a bit miffed.
Regards
Rab

Hi Guys,

The most important aspect of websites is to write them so they are found by search engines.

The greatest site in the world with no trafic is not going to make you a bean!

Rob,

On your prices you quote commercial at 2.20 per meter which should  , of course read metre.

Cheers

Doug
