Just had a thick envelope from HSBC informing me of their change in terms and conditions yet again. For a small sole trader some of these fees seem extortionate. can anyone reccomend a bank is offering the best switching deal at the moment? Thanks in advance Dai

I've just opened up an extra santander business account for my franchise business. Free for 18 months then £7.50 monthly. The additional fees seemed ok too but I can't remember what they are as I'll be doing all online transactions so free of charge.

Hsbc have now started charging for on line payments.

Have they? Robbin gits eh?
Banks continue to offer a worse service while charging more, who do they think they are, window cleaners?

Free banking with the CO-OP if you are a member of the FSB.
-
You don't need to be in fsb if you keep £1000 in coop account you pay no fees apart from 80p I think to deposit cash at post office as I have no branch near me. Do Fsb members deposit cash free at post office?
-
you do pay fees if you bank more than 4000 cash (40p per hundred after this) cooperative FSB account

That is extortionate, I do one job, two front windows for £3 and she sends me a cheque every month.

Barclays are charging 35p for an online transaction and 65p a cheque.
If you go for the other tarrif. Online is FREE but cheques are £1.50
Each!!!!
Need to educate a few customers and then switch over :)

35P for an online transaction? There is no cost to them apart from the programme and elctricity to run their computor. IT SEEMS EVERYONE IS OUT TO SCREW US FOR AS MUCH OF OUR HARD EARNED AS POSSIBLE. I haven't put my prices up since the reccession kicked in 2008, I was afraid to the way I was already losing customers. I wish I could afford to retire.

I know it sucks, you can get em free, but if you take a cheque you lose £1.50 :(

never had a problem with them

Nor me, that's why I opened up a second business account with them, one free, one for £7.50 PCM
-
Natwest flat rate of £5.00 a month for bacs payments , I possibly pay in 1 cheque a month and very rarely pay in cash as this just goes in my personal account to avoid charges then into Isa for tax bill . Mike
