Title: Backpacks - surely no one's daft enough to use them?
Post by: Dave Willis on September 13, 2014, 01:37:00 pm
I bought one this week for a fungicide spraying job I have on Monday. The idea is to keep it for pre-spraying gutters.

I thought I'd try it out today so filled it half full and cleaned my own house and conservatory .....YIKES! the weight is horrendous! I can't imagine filling it full and cleaning windows with it, shoulders pull, neck aches it's dreadful. Don't tell me people on here strap them to themselves and work all day like it surely?

If you do then you must be mad!  :o

I used to use a 25 litre Cooper Peglar knapsack sprayer day in day out when I was landscaping. Wouldnt want to work like that using a pole as well cleaning windows. Must be the most God-awful way to work.

If your in decent physical condition and have good core strength
its a doddle,i generally carry my pack full in one hand a 25litre barrel
in the other without breaking sweat.

Window cleaning is physically the easiest job ive ever had,i put loads
of weight on when I started this game and have to run 3-4 times a week
to keep the weight off now.

Theres a simple explanation for that. You use dirty water, which means quite simply there's more dirt - thus less water in the knapsack. Less water means it's lighter.

Simples.

From a H&S view you shouldn't carry that weight on one side as it'll f*** your back up. Still very useful and I always have one in the van
