Title: lost my best friend

Had to put my best friend down on Sunday. He went every where with me. Even the toilet. If I went cleaning windows, he would look up customers drive until I appeared. Never moving an inch. So faithful.
He started at 6 months old with a bug. Had antibiotics, Ok. Then a week later ill again. He got auto immune meningitis. Steroids treated it, but kept relapsing and having to increase dosage each time. He ended up on a massive dose. This ages the body rapidly.
Vet gave me painkillers for him. Nerve's system based. One night he was on edge, so I gave him one. Vet said he one sleep like a brick. He was awake all night. Tripping I would guess. In the morning he was paralyzed. It sort of came back after a week but left him  not in control of one rear leg. It would flick out and spaz about.
Then one day he ran for a ball, leg flicked out and twisted his ligament. They cant operate due to drugs etc. Tried for 2 weeks at home but got worse to the point where he was dragging his leg. So I ended it. He was still happy which was the hardest part. Had to share my pain.
RIP Bruno you gave me 13 months of love

Mate really sorry to hear about your best friend,I really feel  for you
I had the same relationship with my jack Russell, had her put down at 18,she had a good long life but still brings a tear to my eye five years on.
People that haven't had dog,do know how much fun and love a dog can give, and how much you can love a dog,

I use to take my dog as soon as she was 12 weeks old, follows me like a shadow. Sadly she's left at my girlfriends most of the time with her own dog and they get on so well. She loves people too much and wanders off if not watched constantly. Loves too much attention from young children and as I work on the main streets with busy traffic whilst doing high work it's not practical a lot of the time. She comes with me on the quiet hamlets where there's little distractions and where no harm can come to her. Love my dog to bits, wouldn't be without her :)

Thanks guys. People who arnt dog/animal lovers don't understand. Its the helplessness of it that's hard with animals. They are in pain and still have all the time in the world for you. I never cry when people pass away, but this dog brings me out in wet eyes every day. I got a black lab/springer cross for him when he started being ill at 6 months old. The dog is now 7 or 8 months old and has lost his dad/friend. He keeps going quiet. He will still smell him in the house. I wander what he is thinking

Dogs as you know only too well Duncan are such complex animals, they know and sense so much more beyond what we think possible. The hardest thing I have ever had to do in a long time was to take my dad's wee jack Russell to the vet to be put to sleep (just old age) ! Had to stop the car as I couldn't see the road for blubbing like a baby! The strange thing was he went down hill fast after my dad passed away! I am absolutely sure the wee dog just gave up on life when his master was no longer there!

It sounds like Bruno was well loved.  Dogs are class; it's just a shame they don't live for long; especially sad in Bruno's case.

There's lots of dogs that need a good home like yours; maybe consider getting another?

Mine's 13 years old, recovered from cancer two years ago, and it reminded us that we haven't got him for long; cancer or no cancer.

I prefer dogs to kids to be honest.

I am sure you are right JD. They need a master and devote everything they can to that master. Give them love back and lots of treats. Fantastic combination...unlike marriage  ;D
Its going to take ages for my heart to mend.I Tried ordering a picture for the wall, but keep getting upset. At least I did get loads of pictures, knowing he wouldn't last years.

Sad sad news. I take my jack Russell - Fred to work daily, I don't know how I'd manage without him now. I do know if he became unwell like your Bruno I would do exactly the same, definately the right choice. Hope you get through this ok, RIP Bruno

Duncan really sad news, people that don't have pets don't realise that they are part of the family. I lost my French bulldog of 10 years he died int arms a cries for 2 weeks, said no more dogs but I got an English bull terrier she's 10 now and bought a tri colour Jack Russell hes 5 love erm to bits. Dred the day.

Who watches that animal rescue programme as I wanna kill them evil people who harm animals, I just couldn't be an animal officer as id be fighting these dredfull people so I take my hat off to them and praise the peopl who take in rescue pets good on them

So sad, my pepsy (lhasa apso x jack russle) has been coming with me for a year now.  he did wander across the road last week (quiet road) but I had to leave him at home for 4 days to reset (this lasts for a couple of months before he gets cocky and starts crossing the road on his own again)

otherwise he stays with me or runs into the granny's houses for biscuits, lol

he loves coming in the van and gets so upset when he gets left behind, this missus says he "sulks"  and I also miss him.
