Title: killing off heavy moss
Post by: Matt Gibson on September 06, 2014, 10:30:53 am
Just been to look at a job. Rear area of a block of flats. Very heavy moss covering the whole area. At least an inch thick in some parts. Whats the easiest way to kill it off? Best chemical?
The ground is quite uneven so would be hard to scrape off unless it was dead.

Could you not scrape up most of the moss with a plastic snow shovel while the moss is dry, then wash if necessary and then quats to kill roots.

Otherwise lots of AlgoClear or hypo

Problem is, it never gefs sun, so is always damp. Ground is uneven so wouod be hard to scrape. Was hoping to kill it off then return to shovel it off when its dead and then clean it.

Ahh get ya.
Hypo or AlgoClear then. I'd probably favour hypo then AlgoClear after cleaning.

Spray heavily with bleech during a dry spell if possible, leave as long as possible and then use a backpack blower. Try and blow during a dry spell as well so its a lot easier to move.

Cheers guys. I did think about hypo but wanted something more specialized so i know it was going to be dead and easy to scrape. Thinking ab9ut it though, left long enough, the hypo will loosen it.

Danny, didnt think about the blower. Cheers. Been meaning to buy one for re-sanding.

It will still be hard to remove when its dead.....it's just dead and stuck.
Brush it then treat the root system.

Maybe hire this?

Algoclear pro  (is Quats) is ideal.
40:1 mix at about 4msq per litre (depending on porosity of surface).
