I use Tulsion. No reason; it was just what was sent when I first started out and I've never changed. This is one of those areas that cause argument with no basis in fact. (On CIU? God forbid)
So, if there's anyone near me (Southampton) who uses Purolite, let me know and we'll do an experiment to see if either of them is noticeably better or worse than the other. My details are on my website (link below).
I know it won't stop the pointless arguments (this is CIU, after all) but if there is a noticeable difference, one of us is wasting money buying resin that isn't as effective. So there's a 50:50 chance that you'll save some money. There's also a 50:50 chance you'll be proven to have chosen the more effective resin in the first place but at least you'll have the warm glow of knowing that I'll always be a little better off than I was. Then again, there's also another chance that they are the same. So those numbers are just rubbish.
Anyone?

It would be very hard to prove which resin is actually lasting longer as any number of factors
could make a difference.
I have used both Tulsion and Unger MB and couldn't say which is better.

Fair point. The test needs thought.
The experiment I was considering was using my two identical DI vessels containing the same (small) amount of resin (2Kg or so). Water coming in from my tap, split into two hoses. I have water meters, so I'd make sure that the flow through each canister was the same. Then it's just a matter of plotting the rise in TDS.
So that way, the temperature would be constant, input TDS would be constant, flow rate constant and vessels the same. When I hear people saying they get 1/2 the life from a particular resin compared to another, it's a serious potential saving.

last bag of Tulision earned me over 40 grand, not bad for 70 odd quid

I always wonder if certain resin vessels do the job better than others too?
I have always used a 11 litre vessel before which used to last 2/3 weeks(37ppm going into resin) and now the last 6 months i use the dumpty i believe its called which is the wider one and it lasts 4-5 weeks using the same amount or resin! Im guessing its that it needs minimal shaking to free the unused resin inside where its wider.
I have never experimented with resin and always get it from cleaningspot i think its made by unger.

Wow!
You had no other costs?
You don't use a van? So no fuel, insurance or wear and tear costs?
You don't use any other equipment?
No PL insurance?
;)

We use purolite as its what we get free from a deal we have in place.
I have set up another van and 450gpd Ro and it came filled with tulsion. Have to say that the tulsion doesn't last no where near as long as the purloite. BUT the bags we get have a rrp of several hundred pounds per bag. So its not a fair comparison.
When i mentioned Tulsion resin to the chaps we get our free stuff from. He said its like comping M&S food to tesco value. Make of that what you will :)

What are you on about?? I always calculate expenses, wear n tear in terms of money that those items have earned me. Its a great way of looking at things in real terms. So yes one bag of tulsion resin earns me a turn over of over 40 k, would you like me to put down all other expenses, because I thought the topic was about resin, not diesel, puplic liability , uniform, stationary etc?

Which Purolite resin do you use? It's a bit of a mine field http://www.purolite.com/RelId/33637/dosearch/true/issearch/water+purification/itemtype/pproduct_msds/isvars/default/home.htm

All I know for sure is that unger resin is very poor!

All I know for sure is that unger resin is very poor!
Isn't this the problem? I've heard comments like this about every single resin on the market but I've never seen any facts to back it up. I'm really, really not having a go at you - it's just that (as the first response above shows) there are so many confounding factors that we may all be being confused. This is just an attempt to try to weed out the perceptions and get a factual basis for our preferences.

The problem also is that no two batches last the same even with the same brands, I would say that storage and age might
also have an effect on the lifespan.
You might also find that certain suppliers who have a high turnover in resin would tend to sell better stuff as it wouldn't be sitting
as long on the shelf.
I do know that certain suppliers buy it in large containers and then fill their own bags before posting so can you really be certain
that your always getting the brand that you think your getting.
I think you would need to test a large amount of different batches under a lot of different scenarios to get a accurate reading.

i was also told tulsion was not the same quality as purolite mb400 and from my own experience i will not be using tulsion again!
