Post by: vclean on August 23, 2014, 06:40:42 pm
Hi guys,

been to look at my first block paving job today...and some advice on what to charge would be appreciated and any other advice would be great.

would you use turbo nozzle or whirlaway?

what tools do you use to re-sand?

If it's clean and re-sand I'd be thinking £180

£150 clean, 80 sanding labour, £30 sand

I bet you could devise a formula to compare cleaning and resanding, if I had to charge £80 labour for resanding a drive then the size of it would be at least a £350 clean plus if a drive needed £30 of sand then it also would be the size that would cost £500 to clean.

Not being judgmental about your prices just offering a thought about pricing

BUT....  On the original  question, Asking what tool to resand with must be a wind up ::)roll

Easiest way for me Mike is by the sq mt no hidden costs then the customer knows what their getting.
Block Paving has a sq mt cost of X, straight forward wash & go's (concrete, some natural stone) where no second visit is needed then the cost is X per sq mt, decking has it's own price scale, same as natural stone cleaning and sealing. People just need to work out what it is going to cost then to do the work as in products, fuel, sand etc then add your profit/earnings.

Hi Guys

Thanks for you replies.

Tell me what the sq mts are and I'll give you a ballpark clean, re-sand & seal, using Resiblock.
You cannot do these jobs without knowing what size the area is sorry, picking figures out the air is not the way to go !!!!

if you've never cleaned a drive before i would be very careful trying to seal it, especially if you use a PU sealer.

Yeah we charge the same rate per time for cleaning and remanding as otherwise we would be losing out doing sanding jobs. If they think it's dear we advise them to sand it themselves as we sanding is a pain anyway. Much rather be cleaning.

Mike we estimated it would be 3 bags of sand at £10 a bag.  We have to drive and go get the sand and hand ball it into van so we charge on top of the cost price per bag like everyone else does.  £30 for sand isn't that much money for most people. Or if they don't want to pay that much they can go get it themselves and sand it themselves.

When we first started up we used to charge the custy cost price for the sand not realising we had to use diesel and manual labour to go and get it. Now we charge extra for us supplying it as we were doing ourselves.

What about drainage? You will need to cost this factor in also are you going to dispose the muck or are you going to bag it up and let the customer dispose it?
