I had the hose across a minor road the other day in dry weather at an angle, and had I not witnessed it, I would not have believed it possible, but a mum and her son were cycling along.and when they reached the hose, the son on a bike with widths tyres went over the hose no problem, but the mum on narrow tyres was jolted and nearly came off. She just managed to maintain her balance, but the chain came off.
Anyone else had a similar incident?

Yes I went over the handlebars when I hit a dog last week. :'(

she would have braked or tried to steer when the wheels would have touch the hose. ;)

The hose was at an angle, but I think you are right. Poor technique. ;D

if it was wet then a bad rider would slip.

Well i think wet drains are more of a hazard... And people manage to go over speedbumps?

It doesn't take much for someone to come off a bike using narrow racing tyres.
Even a small amount of litter on the road could knock somebody off who isn't prepared.
Because of the bike to work grant people are buying expensive bikes designed for racing and cant
really handle them.

All true, but it didoccur to me that if she hurt herself, I would be liable.

Put out yellow hazard warning cones

Are you sure you would? I'm not so certain.

I doubt very much if your liability insurer would pay out for an incompetent cyclist falling off. The bike was probably badly put together at Halfords. Chain loose, handle bars loose, etc.
-
I'd have 'bunny hopped' over the hose, cuz I'm cool ;)

If she had fallen off her bike I reckon she would have seen dollar signs as she was flying threw the air!
-
If I thought I was to blame I would hold my hands up,but if she was trying it on close business and open up under another name.
-
I saw a film with the same title. Was pretty good.

Why ? was she American ? ;D
A year ago I was cleaning an eot , there was another windie a few houses down, wfp with hose across road. The carpet cleaner where I was working started laughing and pointing ( we both mountain bike ) a 'roadie' had come off his flimsy bike over the other windies hose ! so its possible yes but I would just put it down to stupidity and lack of skill.
There are bad drivers and bad cyclists, the worrying thing though is cyclists need no instruction or test of competency, something thats all too apparant and I witness daily.
