Title: Roof cleaning question!
Post by: JetVac Cleaning on August 04, 2014, 01:46:16 pm
I am getting a fair few roof cleaning jobs and one question people consistently ask is about repairs ! I am all for replacing a bit of pointing here and there but am in no way prepared to start spending my time driving around trying to source replacement tiles ect. I feel I'm loosing some jobs because of this but I clean roofs not replace them. Does anybody else have similar problems with this.

Hi David
Is it  not possible to befriend a roofer & pass this work to him ? He would be more specialised & able to deal with it but you will retain the customer

Had a 'debate' with the Sainsbury's store management at Witney and some of this cropped up.

If you always warn the customer that there may be loose mortar, cracked tiles, ingress of water, at any point over the structure (that may not be visible from ground level) and when you are up there photograph any problem areas (so it cannot be blamed on you) then you get on with the clean you have done your job.

I personally think it is going the extra mile to offer the minor repairs and tile replacement if requested (you can cost it in, even if it means sourcing) and have an additional bow to your service) or you can just have the number of a professional roofer 'who has helped you sort issues out in the past and is very reasonable' to hand.

I am capable of doing the repairs myself because of the building trade Iv been involved in most of my life but would think there could be a problem with insurance if there ever had to be a claim because of a repair my company got involved with. I agree that this is an extra feather in your cap but also think of it as being a fawn in the side ect when trying to get the right tiles and colour , new against old with fussy customers. I think I might just offer it as a completely separate service and treat it as another paying job

how do you go on regarding health and safety as i have just been asked to power wash a asbestos like material roof down to clear loads of debris from trees so a roofer can repair some holes.
im thinking of using crawling boards and a long lance

I would presume if it needs repairing it must be oldish, If it hasn't been tested It may contain asbestos, so unless I had seen the test report For sake of a few bucks I would walk away...health is wealth
