Title: Creeping resin after 2 days
Post by: ascjim on August 01, 2014, 05:12:02 pm
Hi all,

I'm D.I only.

My TDS at the moment is 150 (was 130, but I've moved home in the last few weeks)

Normally a 11lr D.I cylinder would last me 3 weeks (not sure how much water that is)

I changed my resin and only used 500l of water and its reading 002 already.

Ive used the bag before on my previous fill and it was ok.

I store my resin in its bag in the shed.

All cylinders seem to be in good nick and are sealed properly.

I run D.I in the van, so D.I to reel.

Could anyone suggest what could be the issue here? Lets get some ideas in the air.

Thanks in advance. James

Try twin DI vessels. Your resin will last longer. How fast do you run the water through the vessel? Try and let it go through as slow as poss. I gauge mine and put it on a timer.

Yes I use twin di. Have been for years.

I haven't had any problems in the past so it must be something else.

Bad lot of resin? Cylinder at the end of its life?

Maybe I could of stored the resin better? Would the heat effect it?

Hi James,

Not sure about your water supply, but here in Plymouth, the TDS from my tap has risen from 37 very recently, to 103 due to southwest water now drawing from the river Tamar & the river Tavy so the water is much harder at the moment.

this was confirmed by SWW over the phone & is because of the dry spell we have been having.
You may be in a similar situation. I am DI only, with an 11 litre vessel also.

Regards
Rob.

Is the bag 100% air tight? If it has been stored for a while the resin could have deteriorated in an already opened bag.

I would say you have picked up a bad batch, need to be careful when buying now as
there are guys who are regenerating it and It isn't as good as new resin.
Only buy from a trusted dealer.

ive had issues with my tulsion mb115 virgin resin too lately, i use the twin di method and my water ppm hasnt risen either so ive changed my resin last week and im literally counting the litres i use just to see if im using more water or its a resin problem as everything else is spot on and ive even turned my flow rate down from 45-50 to 30-35 so in theory that should help too?

I'd also check the plunger is secure on the DI vessel, sometimes they get loose and slip down bypassing the resin altogether.

When I change the resin in one of my vessels, the top dome thing on the riser tube always comes out detached from the top and is usually half way down the tube. It will slide back in place, but I'm not sure it slides down when I pull the riser out or if it slides down when in use. Should it not be able to move down? Anyone else have this?

I have noticed this aswell...the last 2 bags of tulsion resin i have bought are lasting half as long as they used to, if that!!

Do you ever need to replace a DI Vessel  ???

Dont think it would matter too much, think it's just to spread the water more evenly as it hits the resin.

If the riser drops down too far, water will just pass through the top of the vessel and not through the resin.  It might lower the tis a little as it passes over the top but to work properly all the water in needs to go through the riser tube.  I've gone to change resin before and found that the resin is still good, just the tube needed fixing.

I've just been using a bag of Tulsion Resin.
This time it's hardly lasting a couple of weeks!!!!!

It's the 2nd time I've had a bad batch. It seems Tulsion isn't very consistent.
My TDS out of the tap is 063 btw.

Using the Spectrum DI vessel a new fill of the resin didn't get below 003! unheard of.

Anyone else had a problem with it recently? Got mine from Pure Freedom - so a trusted source.

I've noticed for a while now that resin isn't lasting as long wherever I buy it from...

Some resin that I get seems more like sand instead of resin in its consistency - Has anyone else noticed this?

I have a suspicion that we are all being sold regenerated resin... Whether the suppliers are aware I don't know - Maybe the problem is with the wholesalers?

Think about it... Over the last few years resin sales must have gone through the roof because of us WFP window cleaners... I think someone has got greedy and wants us to buy it quicker.

Has anyone purchase the tulsion resin 115 from corwoods. I have had to change my resin quicker than normal.  Bought  2 bags off them , the second bag which i  have just refilled with is going in at 1 already.
