On my other thread, the position of my safety cone was questioned...
Just when you think you've heard it all, this pop's up ;D
Now the chap who made the comment, Martin Hulstone, might genuinely be concerned about the safety of the public, although I would argue that i've took the right safety measures in this instance.
There are hundreds of window cleaners out there that don.t even use cones.
So... lets get in one massive debate regarding cones correct positioning ;D

In the van.
Safest place for 'em.
If you can't see a bright yellow hose, you ain't gonna see a bright yellow cone about 2 feet away.

Exactly ;D

I agree with the above.
But i think cones have to say "trailing hoses" on them in the eyes of Health and safety folks.

FTFY.
Not sure on the text on a come though.
A seeing person could see the hose.
A blind person couldn't.
If he couldn't see the hose he ain't gonna read the cone.

The best place for a safety cone is firmly shoved up the ass of the person who trips over my hose ;D
-
I think the cones are a safety hazard by them themselves.
Maybe have some cones warning about the cones?
-
So, the cone needs to have writing on it warning of the hazard right?
Here in Birmingham my coone warns in
English
Irish
Polish
Mandarin
Urdu
Hindi
Africarnes
And gibberish
I will now consider adding Braille to if.
Ffs
If I feel I have reduced or eliminated the risk, I can sleep at night.
I can't sleep worrying about the stupidity of others

I was not being arsy mate, i was just pointing out that if some idiot did trip over it or set up a trip( which does happen, like car shunts) the insurance would refuse to pay out as the cone did not carry a warning label.
When i clean inside communal areas my warning sighn has to say wet floor.
health n safety gone mad i know!!!!!!
-
ps i also have to state that i use a cone with a trailing hose warning on my risk assessment/method statement to validate my public liability insurance
-
Mine say "Trip Hazard"
Or more accurately:-
Cone: 1 _rip __zar_ on one side and Trip Hazard on the other.
Cone: 2 Trip Ha____ on one side and nothing on the other.
Cone: 3 Nothing and Trip Hazard
Cone: 4 T____ __z___ and nothing.
Useless stick on labels that wear out or tear.
Hmph!
-
Most of mine say Police No Parking although some only have reflective bands around them.

One Image for one side, and one image for the other.
TBH i am on the look out for smaller lighter cones now.
The heaviest thing i lift now is a cone during the day so i wanna get lighter ones LMAO!
-
Did you fit anything else in the van Pure?
;)
-
Probably my favourite at the moment.

as in your PL is invalid if no cone is displayed?
Thats a pretty harsh endorsement
-
When i do a written risk assessment one of the risks is slips trips and falls and i have to state that i will clearly display a warning cone stating trailing hose/trip hazard. If i do not and a third party is injured i will not be covered so therefore my insurance would be invalid. These risk assessment/method statements seem to be getting requested more and more from management companies and they are a real pain in the a...e!

Wouldn't it be better to not write the cone in to the RAMS and write 'high visibility hose used' instead?
You don't 'have to state' cones bud.
It's your RAMS. Its how YOU decide to work.
Ive not known a company yet to enforce cone usage...?
-
I suppose i could, but a couple of commercial cleans stated on there terms and conditions that warning signs should be displayed in any wet areas so i have always put it in. Just to cover for trailing hoses and water spillge really but take your point
-
i have one cone with TRIP HAZARD,TRAILING HOSES on one side.the other side is blank.i mainly use it on commercial jobs but sometimes on domestic.
4 cones seems like overkill to me.yes!i have had the general public nearly trip over the cone rather than the trailing hose!! ::)roll ;D ;D ;D
-
Fair enough.
I wrote cones out of my RAMS 'cause i left them on a site once ;D
-
ha yeah, ive drove over two! dont ask me how cause i dont even know
