Last month the van (2006, 72,000 miles) went in for a scheduled cam belt change; it get's a lot of TLC with all servicing done on time. A few days before it went in the SERV and glowplug light came on and a hook up to the comp said that the air flow pressure sensor thingy (is that a MAF?) was faulty. As you can tell, I'm no mechanic. It was safe to drive so off I went and did a couple of days work. The van was gradually losing power all the time, so I was glad when it went in.
Anyway the job was done and two parts were replaced - the air pressure thingy and EGR? The garage, who are top blokes incidentally, said it's better, but maybe not totally fixed; I was to drive it and see how ad when it performs poorly. As time has gone on it's definitely underperforming, lacking power is the best description - unsurprising really as the turbo is only working intermittently. There is no heavy smoke from the exhaust and no misfiring, just lacking power.
It's going in again tomorrow to see if they can solve the issue, but I wondered if anyone who has a deal of experience might know what it could be? It's been a cracking van these last 5 years and I'm hoping they can sort it.

INJECTORS
INJECTOR problems can be a couple of grand to fix depending on what's wrong/how easy they are to come out.
The other issues are between 200-500£ A fix.
Issue sounds like cam sensor.

Thanks Pure. Cam sensor even though it is not mis-firing? Would this part have been replaced as part of the cam belt kit change?

problems with the turbo can be caused by an air leak , worth checking all the pipework for the turbo , see if its loose or perished .

I had the same issue and it was the turbo pipe.

Same symptoms on my son's Peugeot Partner van - was the rear silencer blocked up. If you looked at the silencer from the outside you would never have believed it.
EGR valve was working fine. The garage jetted out the catalytic convertor after the MAP faults were cleared by splitting and removing the complete exhaust. While the exhaust was off, they revved the engine and could see the turbo spinning up. After jetting the cat they put everything back but it was the same. So the next step was to remove the back box and hey presto!

I know the cam sensor can effect the engine and really retard stuff but could be a loose pipe or a hole in it.
I would be looking at the sensor BUT it could be anything though listed or something like spruce has said.
No they wouldn't replace the cam sensor.
Have you noticed it struggles to start at all in the morning?

I also had the same problem a few months ago... changed the MAF sensor and now it flies!!

Just been down the garage and dropped it off. I relayed the above (suddenly i'm pit-crew! lol) The mechanic reckons if it was a hose leak or the cam sensor it wouldn't be an intermittent fault. We'll see what occurs.

Hmmmm a leaking hose would deffo be intermient due to cold and hot engine. Same as can sensor.
My old car suffered with a cam sensor issue and when it was hot it was a
Nightmare. But the sensor was £500 so it stayed broken lol

It has already a new maf and egr, so not those.

Well the van went in. He's 95% sure it's a problem with the turbo itself (£260 + Vat + labour), but has also said it could be a blocked catalytic converter. He's going to try and clear it tomorrow, so Spruce may win the prize lol.
Today it's been wet here all day and I had it down as a spare day for wet weather anyway, so i've not "lost" any work today. Tomorrow is a different matter, but I can do that work on Fri and smash Friday's into Monday, which was a quiet one.
Any idea how long it takes to fit a new turbo?

That's interesting what you say about clutch sensor.
After having a new clutch fitted on a Trafic several years ago, one mile later I lost most of the power. I limped back to the garage about 20 mph. Ten minutes later - all fixed. Weird.
