Got a few customers now and already a pain collecting dosh. What are my options. Gocardless 1% charge but custy doesn't know them. Pay pal customers all know. Is this free. Direct debit, how do I set one up, or do they set it up

Either of you can set it up.
Better if you do though.
You only need their email address, send them the link and they just need to set it up once.
Easy peasy.

Leave customers your bank details, and get them to pay you by bank transfer, or leave an addresed envelope so they can send a cheque.

Don't want them having my name and bank details. Couldn't they set up a DD in my name then.
With PayPal, all they need is my email address

PayPal is crap. 5% plus they hold your money for ages? Pfft and their website is kak.
They technically could set up a direct debit with your details but I wouldn't worry too much about that. My bank manager advised that I open a new account for incoming payments and clear it into my current account every day.

With PayPal you are relying on them to remember to pay you plus you get charged £0.56 for a £10:00 payment , GoCardless is only £0:10 .
And with GoCardless once set up you collect the payments when window are done , GoCardless is the UK's No 1 Direct Debit provider you need to educate your customers which i accept is not always easy . Mike

I wouldn't worry about giving custies your bank details - If you've ever paid anything by cheque you'll notice the same details are on the cheque (which you would give to anyone)
80% of my custies pay on-line and they love it
Easy for them, easy for me - no collecting

When you say online, do you mean they go through there bank and pay into yours? Must be hard matching up every payment

Tell them to use the top line of their address as payment reference. Takes seconds to match up 20+ payments.

Soon you will be able to take a photograph of the cheques you recieve, and the money will go into your account . . . .
no more trudging to the bank ( having an angry line of customers behind you ).

What Deege said +1
Even If some of the numpties pay you as 'window cleaner' which still happens your statement shows the payers name, allocate this to the account 1st time and you know who they are.
Really Simples

Like M&M says, its the being in control that makes GoCardLess so good.
You get paid when you want to, not when a customer remembers to pay.
