I bought a Koreel from Gardiners last week and fittings for it from www.bearingboys.co.uk (in case anyone is interested).
It's a nice sturdy reel and with 100m of microbore and a full hose of water is, i'd estimate, around 2kg heavier than the standard reel that we all start out with (http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/standard-metal-hose-reel-p-260.html?wizid=4cq8a50t8d75ppebe32quvcu15)
I connect to the van with Hozelock-type connectors. Those on the inlet and outlet of the Koreel are 1/2" female BSPT - that's a taper thread. According to Redashe, the UK supplier to Gardiners, a regular straight BSP won't fit BSPT. I ended up with a 1/2" male BSPT with 8mm tail (Bearing Boys item: GT21/08K) on the inside of the reel to fit my microbore and on the outside (i.e. the inlet) a 1/2" male BSPT to 3/4" female (RL21/26K) adapter into which I screwed a male BSP Hozelock.
It just take's 100m of microbore. I might lose 15m to be honest as the bearings are very smooth indeed and when you stop pulling the reel continue rotating creating loose hose which is half on half off the reel. Befre I do that I have a question for existing users like Dazmond - does the smoothness reduce a little with time, or is it going to continue to rotate with the initial inertia of a pull even after 6 months?
Cheers

Has it got an adjustable brake?

Nope

Well i would say the problem may get worse? As bearing wear, there is more play........

sorry carl i cant help ya mate as its never happened to my reel.im not using it at the mo as its my hot reel hose and i only use it in the winter. ???

It's no biggy. My "Standard" reel was like it if I gave it a squirt of WD40.

Carl,
Place a piece of sponge between the solid plate and the frame, and then cable tie the sponge to the frame.
This will cause enough friction to stop the reel spinning when you stop pulling the hose.
When the sponge wears...just replace the sponge.

Thanks for that but it's not that big an issue. I'll stick with it as it is I think.

I've got the same reel but bought it from a local supplier.
It should have an adjustable brake by the reel handle! It has a wing nut that can be tightened/slackened so as to take up any play in the reel.

That was the first question i asked as i am sure the one we had, had one!

Mmmh, seems they changed the design. The picture on the Gardiners site has the brake, if that's what it is:
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/CCWNR_Detail.jpg
Mine has two threaded nuts with Allen key heads, I assume so that they can be unscrewed to remove the handle; spec on Redashe and Turning Point websites say it's got a detachable handle, but conversely they also have a pic as you have shown, with a wingnut. The Gardiner site had the weight wrong too (see: http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=186999.msg1605807#msg1605807) as the manufacturers website (Redashe) was wrong; Turning Point's is still wrong - this reel is 10.5 kg without hose.
So, it seems the design has changed. There is no brake.
Cheers

My brakes on my reels are two nuts? Nothing like that ? :(
