Title: Pricing off Google Street Maps
Post by: Window Lickers on July 04, 2014, 12:29:49 pm
Ive been asked to do an E.O.T. clean on a property that I didnt have time to visit so I had as good a look on Google maps as I could.

Its outside windows and conservatory roof. Yes yes, I know, some of you wouldnt price it without looking, forget that garbage.

Looking at the images what would you put in as a price. Just curious, I have put in a price and theyve accepted it.

Too cheap.  I personally won't quote for any property that you can see from the road; the type we go for have long drives lined with beach trees.

The poverty of the owners of that house in the first photo makes me want to vomit.

I'd've quoted a cheeky £70 to £100.  I don't like one-offs.

The reason I would quote £220 is that without seeing the property you really don't know how long its going to take... Especially with a conservatory roof involved... Therefore £220 would be a good day rate... If you finish early then your quids and time in!

Yeh, you're probably right; I missed the conservatory roof part; that looks like it's the full width of the house.  It could be easily done or a right bummer of a job.

Aare you sure they don't expect the insides doing as well for that price?  I've been caught a couple of times with EOT's where they don't specify, then demand you do the lot for your 'outside only' price. :o

£500 that would give me £100 in my back pocket and £400 to cover my expenses.

half of that conservatory slopes back to the house, it will be a difficult job to get it clean, i've cleaned one very similar, all glass roof, nightmare.

It does look that way doesnt it. If it cant be done it cant be done. Im thinking might work out of the upstairs windows above it.

That's a good price, mine would have been quite a bit lower. I would never even dream of asking the £4-500 quotes some are saying. Saying that you cant really see how big/complicated that conny is from that pic. But even so....

Pricing blind, essentially, I'd've quoted similar to you.
If I'd've gone there though, may have been a few quid cheaper...

I use it all the time.  VERY, VERY rare to get caught out.  I reckon that the amount I save in time and diesel is worth the odd time it doesn't work out as well as hoped.

I  quite often quote from google, but I got caught out big time when they had building work since

^ Yes, or the simple conservatory ends up being a bespoke build which is 20ft high and slopes back to the house.

How did it go?

Were you able to lean out of those sash windows to reach some of the roof?

I think that's how I'd have done it.

Its probably one of the easiest conservatory cleans we've done. On the end of each side was an 18" wooden section, unglazed, which we could stand on to do each side. The whole job took an hour.

I wonder how long they will stay clean with the building work going on at the side.
I hope you made them aware that this could have an effect on the quality of the clean.
I remember doing one a month back, next minute someone in the house behind started cutting concrete blocks
with an angle grinder.
Was left standing in a cloud of dust.
I'm sure there would have been a few spots left on the glass because of this.
