Title: I guess she'll get a good job for this kind of money.
Post by: Window Lickers on June 27, 2014, 10:29:25 pm
Initial enquiry:

Name*: c hampshire

1st Line of Address and Postcode*: rg24 7jb

Email*: cherry****@btinternet.com

Telephone Number*: 01256 8****5

Message*: cost to clean small conservatory outside and roof

My response:

Dear Mr/Mrs Hampshire.

Its a little difficult to give an accurate figure of what you want without first seeing the property. If perhaps you could forward a couple of up to date images of the conservatory then we could give a far more accurate quote. An estimate would be approximately £100.00.

Kind regards

M. Bateman

Her response to the above:

the lowest so far is £25 so i dont think so !

thanks

We're probably not the right company for you anyway.
If 'cheapest' is the most important aspect of a clean, you will find many, many companies that are 'cheap'
As with most things in life. You get what you pay for.

"At £25 Mrs Hampshire......why are you still looking" would have been my reply

I recently had a text which said "How much for 9 windows?"

I didn't even bother replying.

I use it quite a lot.
End up getting about a quarter of the jobs I say that to.
Some people get a bit offended.
It's a good tester 'cause if they're easily offended they're usually the moany type and not for me.
If they take it in the vein it's meant, they value the service and pay the price willingly.

The problem with offering a higher priced quality service is that we end up under more pressure to conform to it.  I prefer charging a good price and not making outrageous claims that I may not live upto.

There's plenty of folk willing to pay decent prices for an average standard of service.  They're my favourite customers too.

I keep 'em with my charm, rather than my sweat.

the other day I was just finishing up on a job when a neighbor approached me and asked how much to do a one off on the fronts only. 2 uppers a bay and the front door with a couple of small pains either side. I recon no more than 10 mins start to end.

I said "as I already and have my kit to hand I'll do them for £5 for you".

She said oh okay I'll think i'll leave it!

Now I know I'm not the best sales person in the world, but for gods sake what was she expecting me to say! 2 pounds!

Why not? It was an estimate, as was mentioned, not a quote.

We're stacked out with work. Its the other side of town and would interfere with our regular work. I cant see the issue. If you want her details Ill gladly forward them to you. You'll have to beat £25.00 though.

That's where you went wrong. You should have left the lady of the house until you had the roof done. ;D

It's ok but I can make that and more on windows. Why slave on a conny for 2 hours just to make the same money. Personally I have gone off connies, gutters priced properly are great.

I agree, im in my first few months of going full time and £50 in 2 hours is like winning the lottery for me coming from a 15k a year full time job. I have lots to look forward to, i.e being stacked out with work and being able to price high

Minus tax, ni, running costs, holiday, sickness, bad weather. That £50 in two hours don't look so good now does it?

even at two jobs a day 5x a week it still looks a lot better than 15 k a year

Personally I wouldn't bother quoting for a one off conservatory clean. They are hard work and by the time you add the time to go out and quote they aren't worth it. I have a roof to do today and I am not looking forward to it.

+1

If you haven't enough work, do you sit at home and say 'i aint going out for £25 an hour'? No, because £50 in two hours is better than nothing

Also, most on here claim to be on £30 an hour (ok, alot charge more per hour on extras) so for a new guy to be on £25 an hour while he builds...i'd say that wasn't to be sniffed at...or have you been on £70 an hour from day one Trippy? ::)roll ::)roll ;D

True. But that's true for all the "shoud I?" threads. The one thing that always stuck to, even when I was short of work was that one offs paid through the nose. I felt it was incumbent upon me to educate those with minging windows that dirty windows take longer and that their job is less desirable. That said, I enjoy one offs. I get job satisfaction and I get well paid.  :)

When I first started out and didn't have a full round I would do a conny roof and all the FSG on a 3 bed detached for £120 took me a day as was a beginner and only had a trolley from pure freedom .... no chemicals as well ... oh and clean all the windows from a ladder ..................... too cheap I know but by doing 4 a month on top of window cleaning it covered my bills ............ when 1st starting out I think you need to do anything you can to get the money in.  :)

Exactly. I'll do them but I expect it to be worth it for all the reasons I've mentioned before.
