Title: what pole length would you advise?
Post by: steve123 on June 19, 2014, 01:32:27 pm
had a conversation with a mate earlier about which pole sizes are the best all rounders for a domestic set up.
I think 2 poles is enough. (I use Gardiners CLX's but dont want this to be about which pole is best. its about size)
I would have a 22' for everyday use and a 27' for certain jobs that are out of reach.
the 27' should then last years and the 22 replaced as the cheaper option.

How would you do it?

For the last 10 years I've used an 18' and a 30' as my main residential poles.

26 - some jobs - most days
36 - occasional

Never quite understood the sense in buying two different sized poles only a few feet difference in length, its like buying twice for effectively the same thing and as a sole trader you can only use one at any one time ( apart from it being nice to have a spare )
My work ranges from ground level to 40 ft. So I have a supermax 40.
I have removed the last 3 sections and only add them for 10 % of my regular work, the rest of the time its approx 25 ft and all of its range is used daily, basically its an slx 25 and I find it light and compact enough to be versatile .  ;)

I used to use 25' extreme everyday with two additional sections taking to 35'

So one pole, then you break something, your stuck

So know I have a 22' everyday which will break down to 18' most time

Then I have a 35 extreme which reaches all heights including loft velux, even on my bigger properties, depends size houses on your rounds I would struggle with 27" as my longer pole

never broken a pole yet in 10 years, but there is always that chance I suppose, I have a clx 27 that has been redundant ever since the purchase of the supermax and is at the back of the shed as a spare but I carry only the one "do it all" pole in the van.

for me a 25 ft pole does most of my domestic/commercial work and a 47 footer for anything higher.

extreme 25 (main pole)

extreme 47 (high level pole)

these 2 poles are all i need for my work.i also have a slx 22 which is a spare "emergency" pole if i need it.

regards

daily pole is slx22 however sometimes need a 27 but  length of section 1 was too big so got rid of it and 99% of the time the 22 is enough however saving my pennies for a 25 extreme

For the last 10 years I've used an 18' and a 30' as my main residential poles.

Same as above.
The 18 footer gets 99% of my work and the 30 footer gets the odd hard to reach job.
To be honest I mostly target work that I can get with my 18 footer the rest I leave to the guys
with younger and better joints.

18' for most of my work and a 30' for the odd high stuff. I also have a short pole which is handy for bungalows or windows which have very restricted space. I hate the 30' (hybrid) with a vengeance because it is so heavy and cumbersome, but i do need it. So when funds permit, i will replace it with something lighter and probably a bit longer, 35' should be ample.

Slx 25 for bread and butter daily work, long enough for 3 storey work light enough to use all day every day. Full c/f so hard wearing, these do 95% of the work anything they can't get we use the sl2 right upto 60 ft

I splashed out on an Xtreme in the sale early last year (I think?) . Very glad I did.
I got the Xtreme 25 with the extension packs taking it to 44' if I need it. Got a couple of jobs where I do need it.
I use the 25 every day and just load up with the extensions when needed. A great combination.
Got my old SLX25 as a back-up.

got a pro 22 for everyday use and a SLX 25 for those high ones.  I want to get a couple of extensions and increase the slx to 35 later this year.
