To cut a long story short my van is off the road again this Friday, hopefully just for one day. Its looking like my whole system has to come out and be reinstalled. What would you guys expect the supplier to do as it is 100% there fault.
I have my own ideas but just looking for input.
Also I think they might have invalidated my manufacturers warranty on my vivaro during the install, but I dont fancy bringing it to the attention of the dealer. What should I do?
-
what have you got? zero system from ionics? ;D

Tricky spot. I'd certainly want 'something' for loss of earnings and 'something' else for invalidating your manufacturers warranty. I'm not sure what 'something' should be though.

My primastars been off the road since last friday....needs 4 new injectors the local garage got 2 out butother 2 are seized :(
-
Sounds like legal proceedings may be necessary - are you an FSB member or in the AA/RAC?
-
I'd imagine you've gone to an amateur.
Who was the guys that Lee videoed not too long ago? Them?
I'd be very surprised if a proper outfit as Ionic or Grippa would be so careless and not even offer a recompense...
-
I'm not going to mention company names yet. But not ionics. Put it this way it cost me several thousand pounds for the installation and I am not very happy with van off the road.
My clutch slave cylinder exploded inside the housing two days before last bank holiday , then they took 5 days to get in in, bank holiday so understandable, but then took another 2 and a half days to repair.
-
Having your system in back shouldn't invalidate your warranty for your slave cylinder . My slave gave up but the company still fixed it on warranty
-
Can you tell us exactly how you believe the installer might of invalidated your manufacturer's warranty?

They drilled the holes in the cylinder to fix the tank to.

Yeah had it 4 months now Daz...been brilliant up till now was driving home last Friday and engine cut out and that was that I know its gonna be expensive but hey thats life sometimes :(

The clutch is unrelated, just a reply to primastar issue.
Its just something Vauxhall said when telling me they covered the £1100 on the warranty, to do with fuel line or something, not too sure as was just glad to get my van back, or was it screws through the floor or was it leaving open holes in my floor. One of those I think. Hopefully they can sort it out by the time I get it back. Fingers crossed.

I'm not trying to add insult to injury, but your van is now modified, have you informed the insurance provider?
-
Yes my van and equipment is all fully insured. Its not a diy system, but I did tell them it was a professional installation.
-
You have my sympathies.
It just brings it home how dependent we are on our vans and systems to pay the mortgage.
Maybe you could hire a van and system while yours is off the road? I know Alexander swan hire out vehicles with reach and wash systems installed ready for use, not sure if they only hire out for insurance claims though.
-
Well I have heard back from the company , they say they not going to do anything but fix the problem which is causing the flooring in my van to rot.
You know who you are and I'm very sure you have seen this post.
My advice would be have a good think about your refusal to make recompense for your extremely poor work which has put a customer out of pocket. Not the first time either, do you remember all the problems at the beginning too when you were taking the thousands of pounds off me and gave me back a van which didn't work properly, had to redo the work you had done already and low and behold we are back at square one.

This is the 2nd(??!!) time they've screwed you?
-
£450 that's everything except the ceiling of van, completely covered.
Mine was done by varitech systems at Newton Abbott.
I would highly recommend linex to everyone, its worth the money.
-
Yes, its the third time they are having to sort it out.
Not even a simple SORRY. How disappointing.
I have emailed them back in regards to this and they are a user of this forum also.
So come on guys help the supplier out, tell them how they should be dealing with this issue as I think they need some help as customer satisfaction is not their strong point even though the company boasts that the customer comes first.
At a loss to describe how I feel about it to be honest.
-
8 weekly ur a dick.

3rd is ridiculous.
You shouldn't have paid any money over until you were happy with the job.
Seems strange that you're not naming them though.
Why would you not?

Its a waterproofing issue, which has taken time to come to my attention. The van sprayed with linex and through poor installation it has started rotting the ply lining which is supposed to be 100% waterproof, well that's how they sold it to me " we will make it 100% waterproof guaranteed".
So hopefully it hasn't damaged the floor of van underneath.
I paid in full before it was done.
:(

I think you'll be ok-van floor wise.
The only thing I've ever known the properly be 100% waterproof is fibreglass.

I think you should name and shame whatever company it is as it will stop people being stung in the future
-
I think you should name and shame whatever company it is as it will stop people being stung in the future
Well that's a nice idea, but we have to be very careful here.
Remeber there are 2 sides to every story. Not for one moment would I suggest that Richard isn't telling the truth, I'm sure he is, but the point is, we just don't know do we?
I myself have had a few IDIOT customers who've been completely unreasonable and then went on as if I were entirely to blame. One said I scratched her patio glass with waterfed pole and made a huge fuss.
If she were to have gone on a local forum, her topic would have been something like "PETE THOMPSON WINDOW CLEANER SCRATCHED MY GLASS AND THEN REFUSED TO PAY- AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! IT COST ME £3,000!!"
When actually it was not my fault at all, and I pointed out the particular scratch when I was quoting the house, before I had even touched the windows, over a year before.
But the point is, a forum user would not know that, would they? All they would know was that I had supposedly behaved outrageously and should be hunted down by a mob!
And before someone says "you could go onto that forum and defend your actions", my answer is why should I have to? Just because some nutter wants to rant and moan? Do I have to be dragged onto a forum to defend my reputation at the whim of idiots? And even if I did, people reading it won't know whose story is the truth.
I have every sympathy for the poor guy here, but 'naming and shaming' is a two-edged sword in my view.
Having said all that, I am dying to know what company it was.
-
Does the company begin with Vari and end in Tech? Just a wild guess.
-
8 weekly ur a dick.
Why?
He has quoted a post from FEB so it highlights the company who fitted it. Varitech.
Can't you just go in your other van or something?
-
8 weekly ur a dick.
I guess having no income makes you angry. If you are now annoyed with a company you were previously recommending to all and sundry who is the dick? ;)
-
I recommended the linex coating not the offending company. Angry I dont get angry to be honest with you, people misunderstand frustration for anger.
Income who said no income, I said a days lost earnings not no income. I was asking people what they would do not start a witch hunt, if you feel your so clever that you have to try and be smart then dont bother.
Dealing with companies and people I dont find difficult and they are obviously rectifying the problem so the matter is in hand, the question every eight weeks is " what would you expect the company to do for you?" a simple straight forward answer will suffice.
To be honest i was just looking for them to say sorry, money isnt an issue, they dont have any equipment Iwant so a simple apology thats all I wanted.
-
In all honesty, I wouldn't expect them to compensate you for loss of earnings. However, poor customer service is out of order & it sounds like they could have handled it much better than they have done. An apology & sympathetic attitude to the situation would have probably made all the difference!!
For what it's worth, if I had a bad experience with customer service I wouldn't hesitate to come on here & spew it all over a public forum!

On the balance of probabilities, what do you reckon is the chances of all four of your injectors failing at the same time ?
-
Its varitech systems from newton Abbott in Devon , streamline systems. Mike Scott, Richard Scott and Rodd Scott. Omg you guys have really ballsed up. I think you will be seeing me Monday morning.
-
just read through this thread Richard, you sound like you've had a rough time of it. But I did notice you refused to name and shame the company? Your last post must mean they've pushed you too far?
-
Very much so. If you saw the state my van came back in you would be appalled. If the phone doesn't ring by 8am Monday morning varitech will have me on the doorstep, I'm 20 minutes drive from them. They need to get some man juice and face up to their failure to provide me with a professionally installed system which as we speak is emptying its contents into my van. It looks like I'm a mobile hot tub. More water in the van than in the so called professional system which I paid them nearly £2300 which didn't include the cost of the heatwave heater. On top of it my rear doors don't open and close as they did before Fridays attempt at sorting out the problem and the list goes on. This is all on top of more days lost revenue through the incompetence of varitech systems newton Abbott.
I have no faith in them as a company now, as it has taken 3 times to try and sort out the problems and still problems.

Maybe it's time to think about taking some legal advice. I don't suppose you have family legal cover on your home insurance?

It's only one injector failed but my garage recommended all 4 to be changed which makes sense as the other 3 won't be far behind failing which will mean more time off the road and more labour costs.
-
Hello Richard, spoke to you on Friday out Varitech, like your set up, looks smart. I've installed everything myself in the back of my transporter as I've changed my van enough times to do a complete refit in a day now so not short of practice.
Spent Saturday installing an ionics 600 tank, DI vessels, two pumps, two flow controllers, hose-reel, pole holders, two battery trays and batteries, insulated tank completely and inside of van ready for winter. Just got to install four 40watt solar panels, a regulator, an inverter and then I'm off the grid permanently for recharging main battery and secondary battery throughout the winter as they will remain permanently trickle charged and also connected to a smart split charger running off the van battery.
I have a 650 litre stainless steel frame and tank as well as filters, filter housings and possibly a 4040 R/O set up which I've taken out for sale if anyone is interested. Text sensible offers to: Wayne 07511 700754 (location 5mins from Varitech in Newton Abbot)
-
Even though my van was at varitech on Friday, I was at burrator reservoir enjoying the sun and trying to relax while my van was away to be fixed. The guy you spoke with was probably Mark , the linex installer from a and m coatings.
Its nice to hear feedback on my van, thanks. Did you like the sign writing? Proper eye catching. I see similar popping up all over the place, probably starting a trend.
-
I'm so glad I've got a system that I can remove in less than an hour ;D
Diy rules ;D

I've got a traffic and had the same problem. Renault wanted £1500 +VAT off me for changing all 4 injectors as they said one had gone and all 4 needed doing. When I questioned them they couldn't guarantee 100% it was the injectors. I went and got it back as I didn't trust them and it turned out to be a valve which goes into the end of the common fuel rail - apparently its a very common fault. They say you need to buy a whole new rail which is approx £400 +VAT. Anyway I did some hunting and found the valve for £100 and it cost me about £50 to get it fitted. I got it from http://www.tved.co.uk
Hope this helps
Tom
