Is the Assistant Commissioner your brother too? (Mark Rowley) ;D
-
I'm sorry but I have to disagree here! Playing the hero when someone is robbing a bank with what the guy THOUGHT was a toy gun is just stupid! I could understand if he was robbing his dear old grandmother but come on, A Bank? More times than not these have a go hero's end up dead! If he was my brother id be relieved he was still with us but at the same time id think what an idiot! And the bank won't give a fiddlers fanny Adams about any hero who gets a cap in his ass!
Right, let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I remember you posting about your brother being involved in a similar situation a short while ago Tony?
Is this the same story or another bank job that he has foiled? ??? :o

To answer your questions:
No the Assistant commisioner is not a relative (as far as I know)
And yes Andy its the same robbery, its in the news now as the robber has been convicted.
I wont try to fight off the negative comments as my brother is more than capable of defending himself if needs be as his actions have shown, what I will say is just because you would have wet yourself and legged it you shouldnt hate someone who has helped catch a criminal who was not only convicted for the attempted robbery but for two others as well.
I think you should blame the parents for instilling a sense of right and wrong in their children, something that is severely lacking in todays society.
Any way enjoy the football.

Lol. Good answer.

Say what you like Tony but I think it was stupid! I didn't use the word hate by the way and their is a big difference between cowardice and engaging ones brain!
Best of luck to you and your brother, he got lucky this time.

You clearly did not understand the context in which i was using the word "hate"
I do however find your assertion of my brothers stupidity a touch offensive given that, and I am assuming, you dont know him.
Perhaps if it was your mother or wife working in a bank who had been affected by this robber then you may be more grateful (and graceful) for my brothers actions and the fact that he will not be able to rob another one for a while.
If you like I could give you his number and you could arrange to meet him to discuss his stupidity!!!!

Good South London Window Cleaner can always spot a real gun
:) :) :) :)
-
Making veiled threats isn't smart Tony! If you can't take criticism or someone else's personal opinion then maybe you should not post on a forum!
-
Your clearly not very articulate so after this I won't respond to you again.
Perhaps you should engage your brain and read posts properly before posting any reply.
No veiled threat in my post, I was merely suggesting that as the big brave man you clearly are you should tell someone they are stupid to their face instead of hiding behind your keyboard.
And possibly if you don't like me disagreeing with you, you should consider whether you should be posting on the forum.
Have a lovely evening.
Tony

OK Tony, here you go mate - I think your brother was a real hero, what he done took balls of steel and I've no doubt the bank will be so grateful that they'll give him a massive reward!
End Off ! ::)roll
-
I think its great a member of the public stepped in and stopped this guy ,Id say very brave ,it takes a strong person to do this and well done I hope he was rewarded.
one of my friends was held up at gun point and it still haunts her many years later .
I did once witness a security van robbery in Colchester and a member of the public stepped in ,one of the robbers pulled a gun and the other robber pulled a knife and stabbed the guy trying to help.the guy who was stabbed almost died .
-

I think you've just proved why JD is right, and why trying to play the hero is a stupid thing to do.
-
That took some balls !
I wont make assumptions of your brother, only that I've never been that up close to a hand gun to be able to spot a fake one ;D
He did'nt even look particularly phased in the security video either !
"Having a bad day and here we go, I knew what was gonna happen next" lol
good on him, how many of us see things we dont agree with and have the guts to face off and say NO I am not going to stand by and watch you get away with this ?
Hope the bank showed him some appreciation too
-
glad he did it, but if it was a real gun,he could be dead. Balls or no balls. At least he will make a few £ out of it. How the F888 do you spot a fake gun. MADE IN CHINA lol
-
How anyone can find fault with what he did is beyond me. I think it was a brave thing to do, and a right thing. Good on him.
-

you say that because he is not dead!
-
There are good reasons not to be a have a go hero clearly, but your brother for whatever reason had spotted the gun to be a fake.
Criminlals these days know that no bank cashier is going to put their life on the line, same goes for the public and chance of a police officer happening to wander pass is virtually nill. Fear is the only weapon they need these days to get what they want, and this guy got more than he had planned on, classic ! ;D

Correct. Your intuition holds you in good stead.

I disagree, even if he did die, it's still the right thing to do just a bad outcome.
What if you were there, thought about jumping the robber 'cause it was a fake gun then thought, 'nah, I can't be ar$ed' and the robber then punched someone to death or something. You'd always think 'if only...'
OP-good on your brother.
-
No comments from me regarding supposed stupidity because I don't think that stupity or intelligence are the issues.
Quite frankly, I would rather be a live "coward" than a dead "hero".
-
The fella he nabbed was probably a carpet cleaner. So, no worries there, we can all go home.

Geezus; I agree with PoleKing; I think I'm going soft?
My brother stopped six lads breaking in a chemist some years back (they were breaking in for the drugs) and ended up in hospital with many stitches in his head. He received a commendation for bravery from the Chief of Police of Northumbria which hangs proudly in his downstairs toilet.
Was he stupid? Yes. Was he brave? Yes. Am I proud of my brother? Yep.
In this day 'n' age we need all the have-a-go-heroes we can get.
-
I was going to disagree with Poleking but after a bit of time I realised that guys like
this don't think they just do and worry about the outcome later.
At the end of the day if anyone of us got into trouble its guys like this who we would want
close by to help out.
When you think about it most heroic acts are foolish but where would we be without them.
-
Steady on lads. 2 of you agreeing with me? Is this a wind up? ;D
-
i totally agree with pole king . good on the op brother. id be proud of him too . i bet he's not scared to go up a ladder either....
-
Well done to him Tony - I'd like think I would do the same but who knows in the heat of the moment.

Sorry, but hes a fool. Not interested in meeting him. ::)roll
-
Surely the moral of the story is to have your handgun in a brown paper bag when robbing a bank.
A sawn off is the way to go but you can get away with a banana in a brown paper bag if you're on a budget.
-

I'd rather meet a brave fool than a clever coward any day.

I've got loads more tips for robbing banks. I might stick 'em up.

Usuay im a BBC Breakfast guy, but just thought i'd had a cheeky look at itv.
Watched the headlines and he's on the main headlines, brilliant!! (I cheered as if i knew him!!)
Good on the chap, yep he may have risked his life but if i was in trouble, i'd want him around!!2 types of people, Thinkers and doers, the thinkers neg themselves out, the doers get on with it!
Just because the blokes braver than some of us, theres no need to knock him! Put what ever stupidity spin you like on it, but in the end he was brave and commendable and wasn't prepared to sit back and let someone get away with attempted robbery

-
Why are posts on here often so cynical and negative ::)roll ???
Watched the news this morning and seems it was more a case of he called the robbers bluff ! he had no idea to begin with that the gun was fake or that he did not have an accomplice . Yes it could have all gone horribly wrong but it didn't.
I know I would not have had the guts to do what he did but why knock him ?
Braver man than me, well done !
-
If there was no risk it wouldn't have been so brave, would it?
Some see the risk more than they see the bravery and vice versa.
We should see both, really. But then again, it doesn't matter what we think, does it?
-

I don't think anyone is ever a total fool, nor do I think anyone is always intelligent. But I do think that we all face situations and we have a choice of turning a blind eye or stepping upto the mark.
Tony's brother stepped upto the mark; he was tested and was found not to be wanting.
This 'bank robber' was probably a nasty bit of work and due to Tony's brother, he's locked up for a long stretch.
I can't see how anyone would even begin to criticise him for it. The man deserves nothing but praise.

I know what you are saying, but wonder how his family would feel if he died or was seriously injured "having a go". Thankfully he wasn't hurt so we will never know of course.
Conversely, how would someone elses family feel if a member of their family was hurt and he had the option to do something...but didn't?
Its a tough scenario and one we probably will never experience.
-
At the end of the day, he wasn't saving someone life by jumping in a frozen pond. Thats a hero!!!
Someone robbing a bank is just robbing, robbing Bas%ards anyway ;D should have waited till he robbed them, then followed then round corner and nicked all the money
-
Steady on lads. 2 of you agreeing with me? Is this a wind up? ;D
even i agree with you 8) no wind up.

I like the fact that on the tv interview it said he was having a bad day collecting money ;D good on him though !!

if everyone had the mindset of that jd all the hoodies would laugh out loud. keep minding your own business mate.if one day you ever happen to get mugged or attacked by some yobs i bet you would be glad if some ( so called idiots) stepped in to help you. ta

I wouldn't risk, potentially, my life for a banks money or for anyone’s money. It's just money.
It's different say if a woman is being raped or something serious like that. Then I'd do what ever I could.

Do you think that the type of bloke who attempts to rob a bank leads a virtuous life outside of bank robbery?
I seriously doubt it. He's in nick and I bet lots of folk benefit from that.
