My hf5 4040 only lasts about six months, i live in dorset and have crap pressure and even crapper water (tds 270). when i first use my ro i can get it down to 18 but within 6 months it has risen to 80 so it is cheaper to buy a new ro vessel than resin. i have now bought a new ro vessel and also bought a clarke booster pump.
I was wondering if i should also buy a water softener and if so can anybody recommend one to fit to my system?
I have the basic gaps water system ie 2 10 inch prefilters and a single hf5 4040 ro.
many thanks

water softener is essential to keep your ro working efficiently . if you don't use one it will damage your ro eventually

I've had the same 4040 RO now for 3.5 years and have not used a softener. My tap water is 350 and my RO output now is about 18. So IMHO a softener is a waste of time and effort, especially as the need flushing through with salt very frequently due to the amount of water put through them.

Thanks Lee
Have you any idea why my tds rises to eighty after only six months then? this is the second time now and i always flush the system and change the carbon and sediment filters monthly.

How often do you change your pre filter? And when you do who dirty are they?
I know 'perfect windows' on here had a problem with his water and when he took his sediment filters out the were rusty brown all the way through and I think his RO needed replacing quickly.

Change em monthly max 2 monthly. never that bad when i change them.
Im mistified as to why my tds shoots up so quickly
