Title: builders clean quote help
Post by: LWC on June 14, 2014, 11:20:56 am
Hey everyone, been asked to do a builders clean, ive been doing window cleaning long enough but and i always manage to mess up the price on these. Id prefer not to do it in honesty.

Ok so theres 2 bungalows and 16 houses. About 180 windows in total, they are covered in sticky, all the frames have the sticker cover on and they are dirty, some with cement.

How do you go about pricing these? Thanks in advance

£3 a window doesn't cover it. You got be looking at 15 mins per window, at least. Some will be quicker and some will be slower. go in at somewhere near £10 each. Have some white vinegar or i find the Blue Harpic with limescale remover breaks down the mortar and its thick enough to stay where you put it on the glass.

I usually got with x3 times what id normally charge, so about £3 a window. But i always come out crying lol. When you can earn more doing normal windows what the point isnt it. I need to get this right.

Exactly. Go in with a decent price, if you get it you'll make money. If you don't, you haven't lost anything and you adjust your price from there.
If you go with a low price, you will get the job, you will lose money and you will be expected to do the next job at the same price.

£3.00 a window? Crack on then.

Go in at 5 times your usual rate. If you get it - good. If you don't - no loss. It was you that said you normally underprice these.

AJ is spot on, you need to go in very high with these jobs as they always take much longer than
expected.
Put it this way would you be disappointed if you didn't get it, by your post I would say no.
£10 a window if you get the job you win if you don't you win.

liquid hammer,

That is all I will say, it makes builders cleans easy. If they have cement on them that is.

Don't do it!!!! Its never worth it, even if you charge ten times your usual rate. Builders cleans are a nightmare, they are seriously hard work, always takes far longer than you expect, any damage on the glass and they always try to blame the window cleaner! Just walk away and concentrate on building good regular work!

Price highly as it always takes longer than you ever think! Then add a further charge for good measure! The other option is to do as advised earlier and run!

Yep, charged at the right price they are a nice little earner. We are doing between 8 and 12 properties a week at the moment. Nice and easy, about 2 hours to clean a 4 bedder, never any silicone to clean.

Ian, plot 8 have just moved in, down at the bottom on the left!  ;D

It's not just getting the price right. It's getting the money out of the builders.
